What are some good stores in Portland and Seattle for browsing for rangefinder cameras?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Alain in Portland, OR USA

There are four stores in Seattle that generally have rf gear:

Glazers Camera (south Lake Union)
Cameratechs (Ballard)
Jim's Camera (U-district)
Kenmore Camera (Kenmore)

Each one flucuates in inventory. Glazers has a good selection of new rf gear: Leica, CV, ZI. They sometimes have alot of used gear but not always. Try the websites (except Jim's). Cameratechs usually has a selection of ltm gear and every once and awhile has an M. Jim's camera has alot of gear but can be "challanging" to deal with depending on which Jim you deal with. There are two and one of them is nuts. Expect silly prices...try haggeling with cash. Kenmore camera usually has some of everything.

Thanks Bob.

Do you know of any photo swaps in the Seattle area?

How about Portland? Maybe I should post these questions somewhere else as I'm not certain how many folks are looking in this area?

Yeah, Blue Moon Photo has a good reputation. I know of no photo swaps in Seattle. There is an annual photo show held at the Puyallup Fair grounds but that was held in May. Maybe there ia something in the Portland area?

Best luck,

Bob

Pro Photo Supply in NW Portland and Citizens Photo on SE 7th occasionally have some used RF equipment.
Blue Moon is probably the best for browsing.
Pro sponsors an annual 'camera fair' out in Hillsboro at the Fairgrounds. Think it's usually in October, but someone at the store could tell you. There used to be one in the spring, often at the Air Guard base on Cornfoot Road on the north side of the Portland airport.

Pro Photo has had the same Leica there for at least 6 months. That is the only RF I have seen there for a long time. Wait, they just put out a mamiya 7II with 3 lenses there last week. $2800. I don't know if it is still there. If it is, it has my drool all over it, so clean it up if your buy it.

I noticed that M6 for $1200 and there's another M6 with 35 summicron for $3100.

They have some glass as well.

I used to attend the Air Base shows and also when it moved to the old Pay-n-Pak on N. Vancouver (late 1990s). The PPS sponsered Swap in Hillsboro I have never actually attended though I'd like to check it out.

When I lived in SF (1994-1999) there was a photo shop that host a weekly or perhaps it was monthly (?) swap. It was a good place to find great deals.

Pro has had another M6, an M4-P and an M4-2 in the past couple months, a Leicavit and some lenses. Stuff doesn't hang around long. Don't know where it comes from or where it goes.

It's getting to be time for another Portland-area RFF meet, but I'm tied up the rest of June. Lets haul some prints along for show and tell next time. Any ideas?

I might be interested in meeting some other local RFF people. I'm very busy at the moment but might be able to make time for it. There's a great little bar by my studio called the Rose and Raindrop.

I'm in the midst of purchasing an CV R2 and would like to get advice on afforable (for me) lens options for a 35mm or 40mm in f2, 2.5, or 2.8 in Leica M or LTM.

I have pics too, but they were shot with a Nikon FM2n which I no longer have. You can see a few photos I've shot at http://www.emptyquarterfilm.org on the news page. Please take a look at what's there.
