Hi I have a Ricoh 500 that takes double exposures, which is a feature that is not on this camera. It fires once when you press the shutter and it fires again when you start to advance the film. Is there a fix for this? It does it at all shutter speeds including the self timer.

There is definitely a fix for this. Your camera needs to go to a repairman because I don‘t think there is an easy fix for this.

Yeah, that sounds like a busted camera. I had another brand do something similar years ago. It needs a trip to a qualified repair person.

Best,

Mhhh... One suggestion is to open the bottom of the camera and check the mechanical parts - what is happening when you advance the film. I had some other issues with my Ricoh which I figured out this way.

On the side note Ricoh 500ME has the real multi exposure feature (a dedicated button). What is your model?

Pictured it's the Ricoh 500 from 1957 ish model.. I took the lens front of to try cleaning it since grease is a common problem but that didn't help the double exposure problem. I was hoping it was something common or just out of place. I was quoted $250 for a repair and overhaul and honestly I got the camera for $40.

Real nice cameras. Maybe just a matter of unscrewing that scalloped ring to get at the shutter, and judiciously applying some lighter fluid to clean it. Sounds from the description like it needs cleaning.
