As a newbie to the rangefinder world, I have found this forum to be an indispensible part of not only my RF education, but quite frankly, my day. So I was thinking with all this great knowledge and information floating about, would it be worth or even feasable to create a wikipedia-like site exclusively dealing with all things rangefinder?

Just a thought.

I've built corporate wikis and they need hosting, maintenance, and most important - accurate and well-written content. RFF could become the forum section of the wiki - it is feasible - but it would take far more resources on a continuing basis than would RFF. I think it would be difficult to pull off.

I agree with Peter's assessment. Wikipedia is big and successful because the huge number of people (read: millions) who put in a little time. But pulling a wiki off with just a handful of people, especially on such a niche topic as rangefinders, will be difficult. Initially, people will be full of energy but the drag of maintenance and having to write new sections on a regular basis will deter all but the strongest.

Face it, us RFers are not cool enough to warrant an exclusive wiki for ourselves..

:bang: Good points all, and I forgot about camerapedia.... I was never cool enough for the cool kids anyway, maybe that's why I love rangefinders -- The cool kids just don't know what they are missing!

Funny, I was just today considering to contribute or Camerapedia.org.

With the body of knowledge that this forum contains, it'll be a boost to both the wiki-site and our next generation of RF-shooters.

"cool" is for young people, as I get older, I went for "class" instead ... 😉

Camerapedia is great, but it certainly needs some expanding! So, anyone with knowledge of specific gear/companies, I'd encourage you to go edit/create some articles.
