I was wandering around a Crate & Barrel store today and glanced at a bookshelf that was set up for display purposes, half full of old books, and did a double take as I saw 3 old rangefinders mixed in as bookends.. nothing terribly interesting or valuable.. I don't even remember any of them other than one was an old Kodak and another was similar to a Leica III-something

just thought it was interesting that a large pseudo-upscale store would choose that as part of their motif

Wandering around? You can tell us... (she dragged you in, didn't she?) 😉

Actually I've seen in some chain restaurants the ocassional Brownie and odd rangefinder here and there too, but like you said, nothing terribly interesting.

Ate supper in a Manhattan restaurant called Vespa a week ago- the wall above my table was plastered with old fixed-lens rangefinders and super 8 ciné cameras.

None of them looked like they'd been recently CLA-ed. The pasta was smashing, though.

well, she dragged me in inadvertantly.. I was shopping for her.. didn't see anything that was a 'must have', tho.. I actually do shop in stores like that quite frequently.. right from there I went to Williams Sonoma.. only thing I bought was some olive oil

Well, looking through the current issue of People magazine (a gift subscription -- I didn't buy it!), there's a picture of Uma Thurman taking some snaps on a recent beach holiday with a Contax G1 and one of the G lenses, couldn't tell which one. So she obviously is a woman of discernment -- and if the Hollywood types are using rangefinders (or pseudo-RFs), can the masses be far behind??

Last september I was taken to the aquarium for my birthday... I was surprised to see that by the tiger exhibit (yeah, in an aquarium... beats me?) there is a little hut in the display with a camera or two... I think one of them may have been a retina I, but I can't recollect exacly... Again, nothing too exciting. Now if it was an M3 I might have taken a picture!

Now that's a brilliant plan!
I only have to persuade my Marie-Claire journalist friend to cover that store, and voilà! we will absolutely need to buy lots of RF cameras to adorn our shelves...

Remember this? You can tell she's a freakin' poser...

Hollywooders using film ? 😱 Who would have thought ..

Actually, RF cameras do look good and I can imagine why they end up as living room decorations. I prefer them over sand boxes, pebble vases and a ton of fancy tiny pillows everywhere. 😛
