If you remove the Series VI filter adapter ring on your 90mm lens, you can use 49mm filters. :D

All you need is a #11 rubber stopper. I got mine at Lowes for less than $1.
Just press down firmly on the stopper and rotate counter clockwise. After you get it loose, you can unscrew it with your fingers.

Well then...I guess we all know where I'll be going at lunch tomorrow.
That's great. So much easier than dealing with the series xxx stuff.

You don't happen to know what size I'd find if I did something similar with the 58mm?

Steve,

I found the stopper in the special parts area of the store... where they have the slide out trays. Laboratory supply dealers and some hardware stores might have them in stock, too.

The nice thing about used 49mm filters is that they are abundant and cheap.

Try the larger end of the #11 stopper. It's 55mm in diameter. Series VII is about 51mm. I've never tried this trick with the 58mm lens.

They weren't numberd at Home Depot. I bought a 1.5 inch and a 1.75 inch. The 1.5 worked like a charm and I now am using 49mm filters for the 90mm lens.
Perhaps the 1.75 will work for the 58mm lens that is on its way to me now. I'll let you know if it works and what is beneath the adapter.

Thanks a ton R.J. This solves an ugly problem for me.

YEA! :)

Let me know about the 58mm, Steve. Someone posted that their filter size was 55mm after the ring was removed from their 90mm. They may have been thinking about their 58mm lens.
