Hello everybody,

A few years ago i bought me a summicron 35/2 type 2 with the protuding aperture control lever. When i had it cleaned the camerarepairman told me it was rare because of this lever. So i looked on the internet to find information about it, but i only found out is was a type 2 build in the late 60's and it appeared to be fairly common. So i didn't think much about it until recently i discoverd they sell a 35/2 type 2 with the lever and serial number 2329592 on: www.collectcamera.com . They claim it is rare because it is made in Wetzlar and not in Canada. Mine is also made in Wetzlar and its serial number is 2330163. I have read about single types of lenses being made in Germany and Canada, but never anything about the 35/2 type 2. Can anyone tell me more about this, was the type 2 made in Germany and Canada and how many were made in both countries?

Cheers,

Timo

If its in very mint condition and if you could find a [ collector ] buyer that felt he needed a second version made in Wetzlar it may be worth a bit extra. Can't say I've met any collectors myself that wanted a second version made in Wetzlar although yes its not that common and there is that potential for unusual versions. Probably only a few hundred made at the beginning of production till it was switch over to Midland Canada.

As a user its not as popular because the 'claw' aperture lever is only at the one small point and not an easier to adjust ring, and seems to get caught on things. It is a good lens and a nice balance of older/newer design with good ( not super high 'modern' ) contrast.
