Rather like Ektar

I agree with Ezzie on this. When shooting color, I use almost only Ektar, except sometimes Porta for skin tones, or when I need a faster film.

Thank you Roland. Your Alaska stuff really did it for me, it did help that the subject material was jaw-dropping. Its also the only pro colour 135 film I can get hold of here at home, though ordering over the net is practically easier than going down the shop. I too am impressed with the resolution it gives. As some have mentioned lens coating may have a thing or two to say about it. I wonder what the next roll will look like, shot on the VC Color Skopar 50f2.5 and M-Hexanon 90f2.8

Nobody feel bad about posting other experiences, pictures or whatever, I understand if not all are equally impressed.

I'm split between Ektar and Portra. Recently though I have used much more Portra 160 as I prefer the colour

and the more subtle Portra 160

I find Ektar can give great results but it seems to take alot more work in scanning to get the results I'm after. Portra seems to just scan better for me.

Nice photos, Eirik! The second set you posted look more like the Ektar I've seen elsewhere: fine-grained w/ a pop to the colors. That said, I still prefer Portra for its latitude and lovely colors.

lovely stuff, Ezzie (man, i'd love to have a land rover of that vintage). i have limited experience with ektar, but i like it much. the color in your shots reminds me of the astia 100 setting in my x100 - just right. i am no judge of red and green, however; mildly color blind there ... 🙂

Thank you Paul. The Landy is 54MY 86", one of the very first. She's not too original, but works a treat (even if she does leak oil, like all Land Rovers).

I guess I always love my Ektar results (except when I blow the exposure). I'm not very sensitive to color cast issues (I have red/green color blindness, and never trust my gut). However, if I'm looking for it, I suppose I can see a blue color cast, or a cool overall tone, in some of these. I can't imagine not shooting a film due to that sort of thing, though.

Those are some very nice shots. I like Portra, too. I'm pretty much just Ektar and Portra, if I shoot color at all.

I've had really mixed results with Ektar. So I'm not sure what to make of it.

Sometimes looks great and other times awful. A good portion is probably on me and metering. I wonder if some is on the lab? Not sure.

I never have problems with 400H. Kind of think that remains my favourite colour film.

Forgot this one. Vivid yellows and greens. Waiting for the snow here, but November has been the warmest in over a 100 years. Grass is growing, spring flowers popping up. Things are really messed up.

As for the blue cast, I think that happens when you overexpose a bit.

Ive used Ektar a few times ... loved 2 rolls (one 35mm and one 120) and hated another (cloudy, overcast conditions with pale skinned people). Shot both 35mm rolls with a modern lens (Canon L glass) and the 120 was on an old Bronica ETRS. Haven't bought anymore yet, but am running low on 120 color film. I have found that Portra (new) makes me quite happy, though. Not sure if I really need Ektar anymore.

Katie, at flickr, go to your photo, and under Actions choose show all sizes.

I selected Medium, then right clicked on the image. Choose properties on the bottom if you are on a PC, copy the URL shown in the properties.

Here at RFF, in reply choose the little Landscape picture icon box at the top, and past the URL into the pop up box.

If you are on an Apple, when you right click the image at flickr you will be offered an option to copy the image address. Do that then paste it here the same way.

I like Ektar when exposed as 100 ISO,
I love the saturated colors with half a stop more light though.
