Rc, Lc, Sp

Actually, now I am at a proper computer rather than my mobile, I can give a slightly less flippant answer.

The SP is generally regarded as more robust, and I'd say the construction backs this up. The LC is a very similar camera, but in an earlier box, and I think, though the difference is a bit marginal, it's ever so slightly inferior in several areas, and I suppose they add up eventually. The RC is a bit of a step to the plastic box mass produced cameras of the 70s.

And anyway, who wouldn't want the spot metering? 😉

Disclaimer: The meter on my SP doesn't work.

From memory the lens is also not click stopped to the LC. The camera has the feel of a Konica S2 or Himatic 7, larger 1960s cameras.

I wouldn't call the RC a plastic box. In some ways the lens is better than the SP, especially microcontrast, and a top mounted shutter dial is a plus.

No, you're right. I was being a tad unfair.

OK, I'm not convinced that the RC lens is in any way better than the SP, but I will take your word for it, especially since it's a similar lens to the one on my ECR, and I'd like to think that's a nice one.

Maybe the RD lens matches the SP better. But it'd come down to serious lens tests to choose between them. They're all good cameras.

Coming from the OM system, I like having all the controls easily accessible from one hand position. It's personal preference, I suppose. And maybe that, being left-eyed, I find it difficult to change a top plate dial when shooting.

It really warms my heart that we are still talking about these wonderful Olympus 35 rangefinders in 2013.

This reminds me of seven years ago (golly, that's a long time) when Trius and I (and other folks) would have conversation very similar to this right here on RFF.

I almost lost hope with all the deluge of digital talk these days. 🙂

My other Olympus rangefinder is the Olympus 35-S II and it has the G. Zuiko 42mm 1.8 lens on it...it was the camera that introduced me to Rangefinders...I am always amazed by the quality of the images produced by these cameras...and that one was made around 1957...
When I found the SP at a thrift store I was sure it would be a good purchase even though it took me a few days to return to buy it...I really had no doubt that I would own this one...
