Having just posted my complaint about not being able to set a manual WB with the RD-1, I want to get back to things I like so much about it. One is that beautiful 1x viewfinder. It makes focusing at F1 a lot easier than a .66 on the M8, even with a 1.25 magnifier and the look at the scene is so natural. Here's one from today.....Peter

on reflection it seems that this may be the worst image I've ever posted. (there's plenty of competition). There was a reason I did, there was vibe at the time...they can't all work out, gotta move on.....Peter

I like this image. It shows me what that lens can do. I can measure the plane of focus, and the sofa (bokeh) is so smooth. The "cool" coloring reminds me of some fuji films.

I totally agree with you on the lack of ability to custom white balance or lack of kelvin temperature. That is one of my few gripes with this camera.

2. there's only one image posted.
3. whatever the excuse for my posting this poor image, it's infinitely better than your rude comment which has absolutely no excuse after my already addressing the issue myself. My taste in images may sometimes be off mark, with my judgement clouded by some emotional reaction to the image. Is your character always so suspect or was this also just an aberration? I'll assume the latter unless proven otherwise.

Come on, it's a garbage shot. I mean really. And I don't see why you feel attacked, at all.

I regularly shoot a doorhandle while I'm doing my own thing in the toilet. But if I post that shot and someone tells me it's bad, I'll agree and laugh about it. You won't see me get all fussed up about it, except of course, if I thought the shot was good.
I'm sorry, but the fact you posted that shot and the fact that you feel attacked implies you liked that shot. And that, frankly, is you business. But I always feel totally insulted when someone posts incredibly bland and empty pictures of incredible lenses. Those legendary lenses are made to be used and abused, they are meant to record impossible shots. But no, what I always see from those lenses are lousy pictures.

Frankly, the Noctilux, Nikkor Noct, 200 f2, 28 1.4, 24 1.4 et al. are all lenses that should record incredible pictures. Instead, we only see lousy garbage shots comong from them.

I'm sorry to sound rude. I wasn't attacking you. But at the same time if you feel attacked I can only recommend you to work on your photo skills- if you thought that picture had merit.

Not even Picasso, Dali or Warhol would have been understood or called geniuses by showing such paintings or photographs. So imagine you or me.

I move on many times. And sometimes I stop give a comment. When a user constantly posts crap shots and/or when it's all about getting praise, I ususlly stop by and just say what I feel I have to say.

You maybe have a problem with that, but I feel I am fulfilling my good citizen role, which is to share, learn, gve my thoughts and exchange as an adult. When kids start crying, I move on.

So I'm movin'on now.

Great image, superb Bokeh, super sharp shot in the center, with all due respect the White balance may be off but I can sense some artistry in the composition. It shows what the lens can do in capable hands.

So there, I will be more of this nature from now on.
 
NB23, why don't you move on if we are the problem? A lot was said about your character in this post:

Joe's right ... there is a way to do things and we all have the right to express our opinion of other people's work. There are however, much nicer ways of going about it!

Sometimes just adding a smiley can remove the chance of a negative interpretation! 🙂

Was the capture R(aw) or N(jpg)? If its the latter, why not use the Daylight setting? I think it simplifies the process by shooting film-style (colour emulsions came with fixed colour balance) and correct the file later in post editing.

I've downloaded the photo (sorry for not asking first) and processed it in photoshop. Enclosed below are two photos where the colours were altered using two ways: first by "autolevels" and the second using the white dropper selection in levels. I do not know which of the two suggests the more accurate rendition, but both are no longer excessively green. This is just like printing in colour- the negative has to be printed through a customised filter pack to achieve the desired hues.

I'm afraid i have to make one more response. NB23, incredibly, despite my saying the image was lousy before anyone commented on it, and despite my pointing that out to you when I responded to you, you still say the problem is that I thought it was an image worthy of praise. This makes you seem more than a bore, but frankly, an idiot. You don't listen or reflect, and thereby you show disrespect. Not liking an image and commenting on it is fine, not reading the posts, or the reminders that you missed the boat, and then just spewing negativity on a high horse, is MUCH worse than posting a bad image, buy a long shot.
Also, I don't know how others view posting, but I decidedly do not post images that I would show clients my work, at least that's quite rare. For me it's just a dialogue, a sharing and welcoming of comments, including criticism. Just a conversation. When I hang work in galleries, or won competitions against professional photographers, or serve wedding , sports, and other clients, I am meticulous and show only my best efforts. And I have been quite successful at this. When I shoot an image and post it in a thread in a spontaneous way, it's very different, very casual for me.

But back to the point NB23, you really need to work on your humanity skills, and not worry about giving others any advise.
 
Yes, these are the shots that I recommend using a WB filter before the shot. It's impossible WB pics without a black, grey, or white reference point.....at least for me:bang: . If someone has any ideas on how to WB shots without blacks, greys, or white, I would love to know.😀

hello innerimage,
i disagree with you that your shot is not good 🙄 . it was, however, not what i expected when i opened the post; do you have examples for this lens at low existing light, one of the biggest reasons why i would consider buying such a lens over a slower 1.4 - and please, this is a serious comment, hope not to stir up another tirade 😉
