RD-1 travelling/walkaround lenses?

I already have the Nokton 40, and am now thinking whether to go long first (75), or wide (25 or 28)...

If you've got the 40, why not get the CV 15 now and wait for that Zeiss 25 next year? That's give you 60mme and 22mme, which are almost exactly the same as the extreme ends of the LX3/Dlux4's zoom.

Then you'd only have to think "do I want the long one or the wide one?" (Which would also give you a reality check for yourself about the focal lengths of your hypothetical future LX3.)

40 + 15 make a defensible two lens kit and you could use the trip to see how often you actually wished you could go much longer (or in between.)

It'd be only the 15 to learn to use and appreciate (if you're already sensitized to the 40.)

OR, OTOH, you could go with Back Alley and all those One Lens Solutions, sell the 40, buy just the Zeiss 28 (or 25, if you'd rather) and enjoy the freedom of greater spontaneity and less dust on your sensor from changing lenses!

Hi There,

The RD-1 doesn't have very accurate framelines, but I have heard that the 40mm summicron is a very good fit for the 35mm lines (and it is a beautiful rendering lens). I have a 21 voightlander and you really have to use an external viewfinder to take advantage of it. I had a 90mm m-mount and it was really hard to focus well. I wear glasses so it does make mini finders and using the edges of the viewfinder as framelines difficult.

I use a 28mm f2.8 Zeiss lens and it has been very good for me. That's all I would take! It's nice and light, simple.

Thank you for this. I guess you're right, if I would go longer, I'd probably be better off getting a 15. As for me going longer, when I'm out using the 40, sometimes I find myself wanting to go longer. Or to be more precise, more "close-up." The reason I'm thinking of the 25 or 28, is because as much as possible, I don't want to use external finders... thanks again.

@sirius: If I had the money, I'd go zeiss as well, but alas even getting a $300 lens is a little high for me... one day! 🙂 Yes, the 40mm fits the 35 framelines near-perfectly (I find the bottom part to be slightly cropped)... which FL fits the 28 and 50 framelines then?
