Hello,
all i have just joined this forum but i am a fake really as i dont own a RD-1 as yet. I have just retired and want to get back into photography and looking to buy a RD-1 so as anyone got one for sale. I cannot afford a brand new one so looking for secondhand and if anyone on the this forum as one for sale i think it would have been used but also looked after.
Thank you for reading and i do hope that there is someone out there whp for whatever reason is selling a RD-1 with lens.

Peter

Peter, I saw that Ffordes in Inverness have one advertised in this weeks AP. Give 'em a ring on 01463783850. No connection to them, just happened to still have their number in my phone. I bought my scanner from them. Good luck.

Nothing listed on the Ffordes website at the moment. I got mine from them; slightly scruffy, which i don't mind as it's going to get scratched and scuffed in use, but it still works very well.

No lead whatsoever on the whereabouts of said camera, but: welcome to the forum, pr1uk!

We hope you live long and prosper here! :)

If Ffordes get any more in, I recommend them, I bought mine from them and they are terrific.

More have come up in the last three months than I can remember for ages, so keep looking - don't fall for any guff about their "rarity and collectorbility factor"; they are an obsolete item (which happens to be wonderful). They have held their price very well, but now seem to be dipping regularly below $1400 (which is about right, considering M8 prices are heading towards the $2000 mark.

Thank you for that but to be honest i have just retired and cannot afford shop prices with their massive mark ups. Looking for a private seller who just wants an honest realistic price i have tried Ebay but if you find one they are normally trade and well marked up.
I do have a budget and i will look around for a month or two but i do realize i may be wanting a camera that i may not be able to afford.
My friends think i am mad as they say for less then £300 you can get a modern camera with 12 megapixes but they dont understand to me they dont even look like a real camera or feel like one.
I am 60 and remember real cameras and the fun i had with them sadly photography went out with work, family and other things for years but now i see photography as a cheap hobby. Digital must be great coming home and seeing all the shots on the PC straight away and easy to post to friends via email etc mmm cant wait oh but need a camera first.
Sorry for rambling on

Peter

YOu are right, and your friends are wrong!

I sold my R-D1 (tax bill) and bought a G9; really, there is no comparison. My G9 sensor went a month ago and it is a £300 paperweight - ironically, it seems to be easier to set the R-D1 sorted, thanks to specialists mentioned on here, like Steve Camera in Culver City.

R-d1

R-d1

12 megapixels on a small sensor means nothing. With modern digital camera you take pictures. With an Epson R-D1 you make photographs. I have an Olympus E 410 and a Ricoh GX 100. I found back the pleasure of photography with my R-D1. And I can use al my M lenses.

"you make photographs"
What a great way to say it. but-

The more i look i may be out of my depth here to be honest i have a maximum budget of £1000 for a camera plus a lens !
Come on guys am i being unrealistic in my price tell me if i am i will leave you all alone once and for all.
I may have to buy a film (oh god) camera to get one like i am used too all the digital ones just dont do it for me
point and shoot yes great ????
Be honest please is it worth still looking with a £1000 max ?

I have found two for friends in the last 18 months both in Aperture in Holborn: http://www.apertureuk.com/ although they have none at present it is woth asking them to phone you if they get one. They are really nice guys. Both RD-1 not (s) mint (better than my own from new, 4 year old) One cost £900 the othe £950, bodies only.

Camtech near Cambridge occassionaly gets them: http://www.camtechuk.com/index.php

I saw one for sale recently for $800 refurb unit. but of course it was gone after a few hours... be patient and a good deal will surface :)

Peter, I would also recommend watching the classifieds here regularly. The price level is usually lower than on ebay. Unfortunately most of the gear offered here comes from outside the EU which means adding VAT and/or custom duties. But i just bought a R-D1s from a fellow UK RFF member for a fair price. So with a some patience you will find your R-D1 here. BTW, a great camera (as far as I can judge it from my first shots).

My daughter as just bought me a small camera to play with its a Leica D-Lux 4 and i have to say it is bloody good. Mind you when she ask what i wanted i was looking on a Leica web page and the M8. Still looking for a R-D1 but at least now i have son of M8 to play with.
Thank you all for your help

Peter
