'Just got a new 21mm Skopar M-Mount and am using it on my RD-1. Initial impressions are excellent. Has anyone used the LH-1 hood with the RD-1? Any issues? I'm wondering how much it cuts off the rangefinder. I'm using a 28mm external finder for framing but am worried about the LH-1 cutting off the rangefinder for focusing purposes. Thanks in advance.

Well. . . I checked around via Google, ended back in the RFF archives and it appears that it will work. The hood should be here tomorrow. I'll report back after I try it on the 21mm Skopar with the RD-1.

Why should it not work? The LH-1 (before I lost it in a wedding after-party) protruded less into the Epson viewfinder than it did on the Leica M6, where the VF is closer to the lens.

But it does not make much sense to use this hood on the Epson. Because the cropped field of view allows a hood with a narrower angle. On the Epson, the LH-1 does not offer more flare protection than the round original hood, but is bulkier. Ebay seller's heavystar's wide angle 39mm screw-in hood, would be a better choice for the 21mm/R-D1, and cheaper ($7).

With the R-D1s/28mm Skopar combo, I often use a LH-2 hood (which is made for the 35/2.5 C and 50/2.5 Color Skopars). No vignetting. Or better said, not more than usual. Have compared it with the original round hood, and without hood at all. Had less flare with the LH-2.

Didier's absolutely correct.
Pre-digital I used an Lh-1 with my 21mm on my R2s, excellent but made it a bit bulky, now with crop on R d1s no need for big hood and use the original supplied with lens.
