RD1 Batteries

I just went to the Epson USA web site. I've noticed that the battery for the RD1 has been out of stock for several weeks. The stock of batteries tended to eb and flow.
Well, it seems that the tide is out and may not be coming back in.

So, those who have had success with aftermarket/third-party, please, post which ones work as well as the OEM battery. Also, please post which ones that should be avoided.

Thanks in advance. Hopefully we can keep our cameras running since Epson has decided to treat the RD1 as a "redheaded stepchild's rented mule."

I have been using generic np80 batteries sold on ebay for a long time with no problem. these go for about 5~6 usd

The CTA NP-80 battery works pretty good. I get about 200 shots per charge and that's with reviewing the pics on the LCD. You can get it from overstock.com for $15, currently they still for $30 at B&H.

And now, please, some sources on mainland Europe for those 1500+ mAh batteries, preferably places that I can actually walk into here in Amsterdam. 🙂 Most online shops don't even note down how much mAh their batteries are.

I have found the CTA batteries mentioned above to be reilaible (testing sample: 1). I have a question about battery chargers. The overstock.com site mentioned above has a charger which plugs directly into an outlet; hence more compact (when one considers cords) than the Epson one shich came with the camera. Does anyone know whether it would fully charge the Epson battery which is 1500 mh, as well as the CTA which is 1300?

The Amps are immaterial accept for the time it takes to fully charge. Just make sure the voltage is the same.

Just ask to see batteries compatible with Fuji NP-80.

The specs should be written on the box or the battery.

Almost any large store that has supplies for digital cameras should carry them. NP-80 is a very common battery.

I have some original OEM Fuji 1300mAh and 1400mAh batteries that work fine. The higher 1500mAh batteries will give you some extra battery life, but the lower amp batteries work fine.

There's a lot of posting about lower-amperage batteries causing camera problems. I can't see how this would be anything but superstitious nonsense from technically uninformed people.

What about the lack of capacity or inability to generate adequate short, high-energy bursts from a substandard battery? I can't see how this could cause permanent damage, but it could certainly explain the failures to write to the flash card or trigger the shutter on occasion that have been reported with some third-party batteries.

Robert White may have stocks of R-D1 batteries, and they ship worldwide. I bought three from them when I originally bought my R-D1s back in Sept, and they had plenty of stock then.

Agreed, these are possible problems with nearly dead or substandard/defective batteries, but I have been reading posts from people claiming that non-Epson batteries can damage the camera, create mysterious voodoo that breaks the shutters, etc.

This sort of stuff is just silly.

The question is how old are any Epson Batteries now? My guess is they made, or had made for them, the last branded batch about a year ago when they released the R-D1s. Li-Ion batteries have a limited life (normally thought to be about 3 years) whether used or unused unless refrigerated. It maybe that it would be better to buy a good third party battery now as its likely to be be 'fresher'.

My original Epson battery is probably about 2 - 2.5 years old. I would estimate it now performs (lasts) to about 70% of when new. Although I was at first worried about the risk, I have found that the cheap 1500mah NP80's's from 7dayshop out perform it.
