RD1 field of views: a real example

For those of you who have trouble like me to visualize the fov of a lens system, here is an example made of several pictures I took with my whole kit (mainly CV) on the RD1. Look at the Eiffel tower in the background to give you a sense of size and distances.
I would like to do the same for street scenes, but could not convince yet any walk-by's to remain still ...

now you just need a 75mm, 25mm, 18mm, and a 12mm -- all for our edification (have i forgotten any?) :D
 
damn i love paris. damn you :) is it expensive to live there as you are? I did just notice old nice houses in the photo. Visible Eiffel tower, ohh :)
 
Assuming your time to spend on this is unlimited :) you could think about overlaying the R-D1 framelines to show the difference vs. actual coverage at a given focal length.

Furthermore, it makes up for the fact I missed getting an Eiffel Tower shot when I was there in April (Liar, Liar):)
And of course, with the framelines, it works as post-modern art:):)
 
Such a nice neighborhood! Isn't this to the southeast? Near-ish to the Rodin Museum? Close enough I think to one of my favorite restaurants, La Fontaine de Mars, to make me envious.
 
Field of view VARIES with the focused distance.

As you focus from near to far, the angle of view DECREASES.

This field of view change is about 10% for a 21mm lens but about 20% for a 135.

That is why RF camera manufacturers generally size their framelines at a compromise distance, about 3 meters or 10 feet.

Thanks for doing this, it is a helpful reference. I would ad the 25mm to the list of those missed. It would be hard to see a picture if you had every FL represented though. Bob.
 
To answer the questions :

cam : if you send me the lenses, I will add the frames ;). Yet I think that except for the 12mm, you can extrapolate with a polynomial function :D and draw them

tomasis : Paris is expensive any place within the city that is why there are so many offices now, people are going to the suburbs:(.

kermaier: don't want to overcrowd the chart and unluckily not yet retired but as a rule of thumb the 35mm framelines are close a perfect fit for the 40mm. 28mm framelines are a very very tight 35mm. The whole viewfinder is not too far from the real 28mm.

jke : actually it is North of the tower, very close to the Arch (which I also can see ;)). And very good restaurants around too...

Stephen : all shots were taken at F8 on infinity, I don't know if it changes anything to your comment.

nanthor : I cannot add the 25mm as I do not own the lens yet I would think it is at about 2/3 of the distance between the 21mm and 28mm corners.

Yes, Tahiti and the other Polynomial Islands have inspired many artists and have been the site of happy soirees and functions. Was that what you meant? or did I misunderstand?

Tahiti is in Polynesia;) ... a polynom is a function that describes a certain kind of curve with constants, variables and using a power.
In the case of field of view (staten in degrees), it ressembles something like y=1555*x^(-0.9061) if I remember well. X being the focal in millimeters. That is a quick and dirty estimation based on an excel trendline I made, nothing scientific, but it could help the extrapolation :p:D. It gives the following result :
21mm = 98 degrees (I believe it is the diagonal)
28mm = 75 degrees
25mm = 84 degrees
Therefore 25mm is located at two third of the diagonal distance between 21mm and 28mm.
Wasn't it easy, now I look like a nuts in front of all members :bang:
But at least you know that Tahiti is not in the Polynomial island ;)

You know your geography Gabriel. As for the girl, I know one sleeping in the next room that would not like to see me go wander in the 16th alone ... ;) though I think the 6th is best for that :angel:
