RD1 still relevant for the price?

Of all the cameras (and lenses, combination) I've owned and later sold, I think my biggest regret is the RD-1, VC 35/1.2 & 40/2 Rokkor!

I hope there is an RD-1 in my future. I never would have sold if it weren't for losing my job back in early 2008 and not finding another until eight months later.

I'm working for the local government now in a low paying, dead end job that I'm over qualified for. Maybe there isn't an RD-1 in my future, but at least I do have a job, even if I do hate it!

It is funny, you (the OP) mention the usability and shooting speed for the RD1.

The slowness of the RD1 to write to memory was one of the most frustrating things I found about the RD1. It felt like shooting a film camera, right until you pressed the shutter. Then that blinking red light, indicating that it was writing the image, drove me nuts.

No complaints about the imagery, or the ergonomics, though. Some complaints about the robustness of the RF mechanism regarding its ability to maintain alignment.

Thanks for the replies. It seems that the epson really is a camera that people have special feelings for. I settled for the the Ricoh GXR plus M mount in the end, because of the price, out of curiosity, and because I like the Ricoh handling a lot.

If the Epson gets cheaper, I might get one though, just for the look and rangefinder focussing.

It's amazing they are still selling this camera new, even put some small updates on it, but nothing changing the image quality. It's probably the digital camera that has stayed around the longest.

Maybe Epson and voightlander can make a successor, full frame and a bit faster. I would pay good money for it.

Relevant!

And beyond that, sooner or later an option to the M9 will come...

The R-D1 is a great camera: I'd prefer it to an M8 because of its beautiful tone... That tone is something really outstanding... I guess lots of us would like a full frame sensor version... Not because of technical image quality (already great on R-D1) but because of factor (lenses' apparent change in FL...) I know the reasons other members talk about to explain they're sure no other FF DRF will come soon... I don't think so... The M9 is so expensive some other manufacturers must be thinking about it...

Cheers,

Juan
