RD1s battery

I do know that all manufacturers of electronic equipment using proprietary batteries will say that the warrenty is void if you use 3rd party batteries, so Epson's story there is hardly surprising.

Actually Epson did not tell me tha tthe warranty was void, the camera was repaired in warranty, he only told me that in all the observed instances of that fault (shutter lock up) a third party battery was used, however they could not issue a formal warning since they have not managed to discover the exact technical reason.
That episode, together with the cost of the camera, and the fact that my RD-1 will be out of warranty in a few weeks time, are reason enough for me to use only Epson batteries.
Of course you may feel differenly, it's your camera after all and you are entitled to use any source of power you like with it. ;)

Totally agree with your point of view on this - I guess I'm being relaxed about this now because I haven't had a problem yet (fingers crossed ;) )

btw, I tried one of the 3rd party batts at the w/e, and it was pretty much pants. I've got another make to try next, rated at 1450 mAh, so if that's better I'll report back.

I've constantly used 3rd party batteries (3.7 V, 1350 and 1500 mAh) since nov' 2004 without any problem.
