Re-coloured iconic images

Impressive. Thanks. Yes, a LOT of effort has gone in to colouring them. Frances can tell better than most: her exhibition in Arles in two weeks is hand coloured...

Not too sure.

Most of those original (not all, but most) black and white photos had been taken using very slow orthochromatic B&W material, with some special lighting conditions.

So, most of them now look terrible once colored.

I'd rather praise what the LC did by scanning their huge Kodachrome collections and uploading them on flickr (The Commons). There you can see some genuine colour iconic stuff.

I didn't spent any time to dig deeper into this, how the coloration was done etc. The pictures look technically perfect but some of these images are embedded as B&W into the collective memory, I think it is a very strange approach. Just not my cup of tea, not at all.
