This may be a dumb question, but while I was scanning multiple rolls of black and white negatives, I noticed that some still smelled like fixer. Is this an indicator that I did not wash them properly and should be re-washed?
If so, would hypo wash or just water be a better remedy? Thanks in advance...

Or maybe a sensitive nose! Ha! Just kidding.
Don't know. Haven't had that happen.
Things can happen if you re-wash. Only water would be my first choice.
Maybe do a good job scanning just in case.

Do you remember what you smoked and/or drank while the film was beeing washed ?Is this an indicator that I did not wash them properly and should be re-washed?
If not, you may want to re-wash it.

Ah well I should clarify that for most of the time that I have developed my own film I used the Ilfor method of washing, followed by a final rinse of DI water. Lately I have switched to Arista hypo-wash for about 5 minutes. Now I dont recall which rolls recieved which treatment, but some definitely smell a bit like fixer and others dont!
And no I've never developed film while THAT drunk

For now 31 years I've been washing films the same way : a short bit of the "Ilford method" (not scientifically done at all) then 45 minutes under (very moderate debit) tap water.
And... no problem.
Anyway - there is no risk at re-washing films. Wash (the way you want), then apply the final DI water + wetting agent bath once again, and that's it.

I don't used hypo clearing anymore because my understanding it isn't needed for films made the past couple decades or so.
I used photo flow prior to hanging the film to dry to better allow the water to run off of the film.

True - because of the new emulsions and bases.I don't used hypo clearing anymore because my understanding it isn't needed for films made the past couple decades or so.

If they smell like fixer, I'd wash them some more.
