Really cheap M8

Oh my - will I end up with another M8? I just bought a very good M7 as I will wait for the prices of second hand M8s to come down. And then... Someone I know as a reliable seller here in Norway is selling off an M8 for the equivalent of $2000! With warranty left - and serviced for banding! With 3 original batteries, but no box or manual... The only drawback is that the shutter has 35.000 actuations...

Well, I had to send a mail - so we will see... He is selling it off fast as he has bought an M8.2 it seems.

Anyway, it seems like the prices are really coming down - my M7 I also got from someone buying an M8.2, and it was a very good buy.

I said half a year ago or so that the prices would go down, but where will they be in yet another 6 months?

Actually the idea of an M8 with that many shutter actuations is not a bad thing ... especially at that price. I must admit I've never had a problem buying a high milage used car provided I knew it's history and how it was maintained ... I would see this camera in that same light!

Yes... I bought the one I have now from another photographer that I know is not cheating anyone, and I have a good feeling that it will last me a long time.

He's not answering the mail, I guess it is to late... Will have to wait until tomorrow then!

I am going an an extended trip through europe this summer, how nice would it not be to carry 2xM8 alongside with my light 4X5 in a bag...

Anyway, this really makes my mind up - the M8 is the only camera other than a film M that I will be really happy with, I just know it! I spent a few years getting into using M2/4/6-es, and after that all other gear has never given me the same feeling and closeness to the subject...

The Leica warranty is important for used M8's.

Only Leica can repair them, and out of warranty repairs are very expensive.

That is right...

Long term, do you think somebody else will also be able to do repairs of sorts? By that I mean cannibalizing on parts cameras, or perhaps patching weak parts here and there...

I really hope I can keep the one I got for an extended period - it just feels so right now that it is getting worn and marked just like any film M!

There are plenty of affordable M8 cameras around - just have a look at the buy-and-sell on LUF. 35.000 exposures does not seem to be excessive. Although Leica are not telling, I would be highly surprised if the M8 shutter was not specified for 150.000 exposures. If you feel like it, you could always get the M8 upgraded, albeit at a high price, to get an extra year's warrantee.
