Hiya
I have an offer for a Leica 35/2 Summicron 4th generation (pre-asph), serial number 3354xxx, earlier version with "Leitz made in Canada" engraving, clean glass, some ruff spots on the hood, no box: $800 shipped in the US. Is this a reasonable price?
Thanks in advance.

Vincent, it sounds like a great price to me if it's in good condition. I'd love to find one for this price . . . & I've been looking.

I just bought one last week - 3061XXX. Paid £450 in the UK. I've seen them on *bay and at dealers for over £700 so your price is very good.

I got mine not the Canada Version, with my Leica M6 Clasic Titanium for 1100 dollars.
I thought I paid too much but as far I've seen the prices are going high very fast.
Maybe it's due to the crop factor of Digital M's , I don't know?
I was tempted to sell it or to trade it, but I think I'll regret it later.
I like it too much.

Price is reasonable. Never mind the rough spots on the hood, better to have them there than on the lens. Perhaps a new hood can still be bought (expensive!).
Never mind the absent box, it's really difficult to use it when locked-up in its box...

Vincent - The price sounds good to me. As legendary as the reputation of this lens is, I think it is well deserved. The glass is magic. Once you mount it on your M6 it will be hard to take off.

Very true... A box is the last thing I need.Treb said:Never mind the absent box, it's really difficult to use it when locked-up in its box...

May I ask the approximate value of that same 35/2 Summicron lens in mint condition (with original box, leather case, lens HOOD, instr., warranty cards) / same serial number range / BUT with "LENS MADE IN GERMANY" engraved rather than Canadian manufacture?
Is the Canadian manufacture more desirable / worth more? TIA
