Received new X-Pro 1

Just received my new XPro1 and I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a new camera! Batteries are charged and I've uploaded the v.2 firmware. Any suggestions from the group for initial settings to try out? Thanks!

Before I sold my XP1 I bought 2 additional batteries so I could leave power save off while street shooting. I was much happier with the performance once I switched it off.

Agree with above.. Also turn on quick start and set up both ( separately ) the VF screens to your taste (I show just about everything the camera will show)

I really understand your excitement. Exactly how I felt and I have some pretty tasty Nikon gear.

Thanks for the tips and advice, gang. I will start noodling around with it tomorrow. I did update the firmware for the lens, I have just the 35/1.4 now, with the 28-55 on order. I expect to add the 14/2.8, assuming it performs as well as anticipated by year's end and then the 56/1.4 when it shows up next year. I've been blessed with many great cameras and lenses over the years, shooting with Leica SLRs from 1985-2008, then switching over to Nikon DSLRs. I never enjoyed the DSLR experience, I was misersble, really, and my work got very sloppy. I was about to pony up for a Leica M9 and three lens kit, but was hesitant as I never got on well with rangefinders despite liking the esthetics and size. This X Pro seems to be the perfect blend of traditional operation and modern technologies for me. I guess for some it's an odd mix but I am loving it! Here's hoping Fuji continues to grow this line for quite a while.

You're going to have a lot of fun.

Don't rule out getting a Fuji M adapter and using some Leica lenses. It's not as easy as using the fuji ones where you can use the quick rough focus first for manual lenses, but it lets you use the zoom to get really sharp pix. I use the manual focus about a quarter of the time and this works fine.

- Change the manual focus turn direct to match your favorite camera lens' direction
- M-to-X converter (got mechanical one by Shogun Camera HK) - CV 15/4.5 works well
- Turn off auto-focus assist light (silent mode)

Initially turn on the audible focus lock confirmation option. This will help you adjust to the differences between contrast and phase-detection AF.

You are aware of parallax error, but it's important to keep this in mind when using AF in OVF mode.

Avoid lens filters when possible. The sensor is extremely close to the rear lens element and even the highest quality filters can cause flare artifacts. Inexpensive filters will always cause trouble sooner or later.

You will get essentially no shutter lag from a shutter half press. The lag without a using a half press depends on many variables. Typically the lag is not a problem even without a half press.

The batteries do not have sophisticated electronics and they will expire more suddenly than the meter indicates. Always carry a spare, charged battery.

If any custom finder display options seem to disappear, press the display button and they should return.

The Trans-X sensor requires different sharpening parameters in post-processing compared to sensors with AA filters. Start with no sharpening at first and avoid the typical default sharpening parameters found in post processing software.

Finally, always format the card in-camera. Never just delete data from the card and pop it in the camera if you use a Mac

Picked up my new XPro1 and 35mm f1.4 today. Will get the free wide angle lens when it arrives I guess from Fujifilm 🙂

I'm currently at Walt Disney World with the family for two weeks. I headed out last night between 2 and 3:30 in the morning through the resort for a little available light photo safari with the X-Pro 1 and the 35/1.4, camera iso set to auto 6400. Absolutely phenomenal results, and only hit focus hunt maybe twice, briefly. This camera continues to amaze me the more I use it.
