The stealth street shooting thread, discussing use of long lenses, had me thinking.. It was mid 2008 in Venice that I last used a long lens (>90mm) to shoot street. Took a look at images from one rainy morning, and all but a couple of the images uploaded to a gallery were vertical! Many were similarly composed (not much variety, hopefully would be more diverse today).

I think with a long zoom, I have a natural a tendency to zoom to fill the subject, but not to crop them for the most part. When wider and closer, I tend to gravitate to a landscape format.

Here are some examples, all shot with 5D and a 70-300 DO lens (pretty compact telephoto). I did not "hide" for these, but shot in plain view, working quickly.

This guy's backpack said "Warning: Comunista Militarizad", he was wearing fatigues and had a determined walk. So, figured shooting from this perspective would be a bit safer!

Here be some, though I still have to find my M8 to proper use in this orientation... I hope the thumbs up will help to hold it more comfortably in the "V-way".
