Recommend a 90 mm lens for my M3

Though I like my big Bertha Summicron V1 I admit that even an old Elmar from 1936 does have some appeal.

A couple of candidates, 3 element Elmar 90/4 (circa 1965), and 90/2.8 Elmarit (circa 1970)

Hi, i´d suggest you the elmar 90/4 lens, if you don´t use it too much....it is a sharp, light weight and small....I guess they can fetch 100 usd plus shipping....so it´s also very cheap!!!

I had a three element elmar wich is superb but expensive and longer...it´s aliminium body and is very light weight also.

Now i own a c-elmar which is larger then the first chrome elmar....

I had a v1 cron wich is huge but great perfomer....also had the canon 85/2 lens wich is very cheap and a great lens from f2 on!

So i don´t use the 90/85 lenses that often and i´ve chosen to keep the c-elmar (although it has an extrange RF coupling temper....)

Cheers!

For travel AND sharpness the macro Elmarit is the tops BUT out of sight as to price. Having used the all 3 of the 2.8 90's for portraits you can't go wrong with any IMO. The older Elmarit is probably the best buy plus you can use the lens head on the visoflex and it's not quite as flare prone as the T-E

I purchased an M3 in order to mount a Leica 90mm APO Asph, but I shoot mostly with the M-Hex. The Konica is sharp, great contrast, compact and has a retractable lens hood. It comes close to my 90mm Zeiss on the Contax G2. My favorite lens in this general focal length is the Zeiss 100mm Makro Planar F/2.0, but that is in the C/Y mount. Just an unbelievable lens. Well worth buying a body just for the lens.

I am lucky enough to have 3 lenses that fit the bill for me...85mm 1.8 Canon for stage and indoor sports, 100 3.5 Canon, so small and sharp...and Leica 90mm Elmar C, my go everywhere lens. It's small, sharp, short focus distance, and non rotating front.
