Can someone recommend an SD card for my M9? Don't need crazy speed or really more than 8 or 16 gigs. Just something that works. I use the thing like my M4p so wouldn't know how to turn on bracketing or anything like that if I had a gun held to my head.

Saw some threads about problems with some San Disk cards which I usually like but really just want a basic solid recommendation.

I have been using a 16GB class 10 Transcend SD card on my M9 and MM. Inexpensive and no issues.

I now use: Transcend 16GB C10. I have had a pair of these cards for >1year. No problems at all (yet).

EDIT: Previously my M9 had corrupted a Sandisk card and a 7dayshop card.

I have used Sandisk Extreme, class 10, 8gb, 16gb and recently a 32gb without any problems. The 8 & 16 have been used in the M9 for the past 4 years, the 32 was only used in the past couple of months.

My M9 ruined several Sandisk Extreme cards.

But it loves Pretec SDHC I 32GB 16/433x which can be found for about 12USD.

I've used nothing but SanDisk Extreme cards in all my digitals, never a problem. I had an M8 and am on my second M9 along with several Canon, Fuji and Epson brand cameras.

google:
leica m9 sandisk extreme

you will see a litany of problems.

M9 is far pickier than any other serious digital camera I know.

My Sandisk cards worked fine for several shoots, then I nearly lost a whole shoot.

Cards are cheap. Do your research and get one the M9 really likes for sure.

And never go anywhere special without an extra card, just in case.

I heard the same thing about the Extreme cards, though I do believe that one of the firmware updates corrected the issue. I've been using the SanDisk Ultra cards and they are okay -- that's all I used in my M9 and now my Monochrom. No issues.

Panasonic Gold. It has a data integrity check facility which eliminates all problems that might exist with the M9.

I've used Sandisk Extreme 16G and HP 32G Class 10 cards in my M9 for 20,000+ exposures since 2012. Not one problem.

All the years I had my M9 I used the same bunch of 2GB Sandisk Extreme II cards I had left over from my M8. Still using them on the M-240. Never had a hiccup in all these years.

16 gb Lexars, 400x & 600X.

Too big a card gives M problems and 16 is enough for hundreds of raw files. I contend if you make more than that, you are just a "spray & pray" photog and not a marksman. Even so, divide the catch to minimize errors.

I had trouble, major trouble, with SanDisk Extreme 8G. I don't use that brand in digital Leicas. I have had no trouble with Lexars and Panasonic 16G.

I also have used Transcend 16 gb class 10 cards exclusively on the M9, since it destroyed 2 Sandisk cards. I think it is irresponsible to just post messages like I have used Sandisk for x years without problems. The problem is very well documented and if it didn't happen yet to you it will happen sooner or later, to you and the OP. It's really like saying, I've been playing Russian roulette for a year now and I never shot myself in the head ;)

I have been using a 16GB class 10 Transcend SD card on my M9 and MM. Inexpensive and no issues.

I just bought two such cards. The total cost was less than $20.
I have been using different brands, with sizes 2,4,8 and 16 GB. Two cards did not work, so I threw them away. It may have been a coincidence, but my M9 died when I happen to repeatedly try to use one of these two cards that I then threw away.

Counterfeit cards abound. The most counterfeited is $100 no I mean Sandisk. And they are very good counterfeits to.

I have been using Lexar.
