great thread! i was looking for the answer to this question for some time, and now here it is all in one place.
i also see here some water experts, so i would like to take an opportunity and ask a question. i was advised to use tap filters when developing my films, is that ok to use this filter or distilled water should be used better?
As usual, "it depends". If you plan too use Xtol or any other developer that uses ascorbate as its developing agent, you really need to mix the stock solution using deionised/distilled/demineralised water. If you are using ID-11 / D-76, filtered tap water should be okay if it is of decent quality. A filter like the one you linked to, or the Paterson filter: http://www.rogerandfrances.com/photoschool/mt paterson water filter.html
is a good idea to remove particulate material from your water. Your chemicals will be more pure and your films will dry cleaner. It will not remove dissolved solids (salts) which can cause drying marks.

i am going to use ID-11, i've ordered some chemicals and will develop my first roll soon. i try not to miss any details in the process, that's why i ask too many questions. i also use google to find answers but this forum is definitely more helpful and interesting to read

Filtered tap water should work with ID-11. The tap water may give you drying marks but you can use a final soak/rinse in deionised/distilled water to avoid them.
Good luck!

I buy my bottles here. I store XTOL in the 16 oz. amber bottles. Not super-cheap, but not preposterously expensive, either.
I've used Schott bottles, typically ~$25 each in the sizes I use here in Australia. Next time I need to stock up on bottles I'm going to see what Specialty Bottles charge for shipping. If their quote to Australia is less than, say, $200, it will be a total bargain for me.
