Recovering Camera Leather...

I cant take credit for this one, I may have read it over at Photonet?
Maybe here? If so thanks. Figured this was a good place for it.
Someone mentioned that when they need leather for a damaged
camera they head to the thrift shops to look at ladies purses...
Good Idea really, I never thought about doing that. Could come up
with some interesting colors and textures cheap..Oh if you are
thinking about reusing the leather on your Canonet after a repair
forget it...it will come off in small, torn pieces.
www.Cameraleather.com has a good selection of precut selfstick
replacement leather in many colors.

I also found this site while site-seeing on *bay. The product here will make you want to buy any camera just to recover it with some cool looking skin.
I was cleaning up a friend's Yashica Mat EM and it could use a new cover...I would love to do it.
Don't go to this site...you'll be sorry $$$$$ :D :D :bang:

We just got a camera where the skin is just beggining to curl up around the lens mount and on the sides. I wonder if I can keep that skin by glueing...I am not sure what it's made of, but it feels really nice.

Hi,
I have used both Aki Asahi and Cameraleather. Aki Asahi is resonably priced and provides a very quick service. Camera Leather covers more models and has a greater range of finishes but he is much more expensive and his orders can be a bit slow. My first effort is here:

Next on the list is a Canonet QL17 GIII.

I always wanted a more exciting look for my green R2 and Cameraleather is coming out with R2 leathers soon according to its owner.

Hi,
I actually have 2 GIII bodies stripped. You're right, one was a real swine to get off. The other came off relatively easily. I am beginning to wonder if it had had a replacement cover. The Olympus was OK but it need a liberal amout of white spirit to soften the glue and afterwards, my fingers were sticking to everything for a couple of hours. The Konica S2 was the easiest apart from cameras I had better not mention! Still, the GIII strip is relatively straight forward compared to painting

I managed to get one set of skins off a GIII intact. Now I'm using them to make an aluminum pattern for future jobs. I've done the same with my Zorki, C35, GSN and others.
I cut my own leather and leatherette.

I was about to offer you a complete set of GIII skins from one of my projects but thats not needed now. If you keep this up, you will be setting up another shop for skins :)

I've been thinking along those lines. :)
Still looking for Kiev 4am skins.

Hi,
As a result of some other projects, I should have a complete set of skins for the Konica S2 and Oly RD/DC lying around. If you want them, send me a PM wth your address and I will try and find them and post.

Kim
