Recovery software for Leica DNG Files

What incident preceded the loss

What incident preceded the loss

Format of the card?

Disconnecting the camera and card or a card reader from a USB port without turning off the USB ports power from the system tray (There is a risk of damaging a circuit in your camera if you are pulling the cable without shutting down the port, even if you turn the camera off first)

Recovery software treats the card just like any other drive in terms of finding and recovering lost data. So any disk data recovery program should make the attempt.

I've had the best luck with R-studio as described at the following link. I've used it a few times on various client computers. As I recall, there was a trial version that would locate the files and tell you if they were recoverable. However, you had to buy the software to affect actual recovery.

I have the same software tool; very handy. It has a few rough edges, but it gets the work done.

I also bought it in one fit of panic when I accidentally formatted my CF card a few minutes after leaving a paid gig, and having taken some really unique shots hours before.

I had a very hard case of lot data recently, a drive reformated and Windows 2000 reinstalled and then they found out that they had encrypted directories with the keys stored on the reformated and overwritten drive.

Restorer 2000 salvaged most of the old registry from the former windows installation. I could get usernames and passwords back and from there I could hack into the encrypted folders :)

Hi Richard

I've used Lexar's image recovery software which extracted all the images off a corrupted SD card (Sandisk) fine - took a bit of time though. The software came on a CF card but I think that its available from Lexar's website too.

I have Photo Rescue & it worked well on the 1 occasion I needed it. Can't really compare it to other software, though, as I haven't tried any others.

Thank you all!
The R -undelete software recommended by gabriel and Kuzano looked great but i could not pay for a license from the UK (I dont have Visa) so found another product just called Card Recovery.com on the web and this has wprked very nicely. Interestongly it produced some thumb nail images of the DNG files.

Best wishes

Richard
