Are the plastic spools for 35mm and 120 film recyclable? There are no symbols on the spools to guide me in doing the right or wrong thing.

The symbols are not an accurate guide.
Follow the acceptance rules of your local recycling facility. Those rules are likely based on the container type and source.
Putting any old plastic resin material in the recycling bin may assuage guilt but it makes your recycler responsible for sorting out your garbage.
