Mmmh, just when you thought you've seen it all: I cannot mount an Elmarit 28 ASPH on a new-to-me M6 because the red dot of the lens gets stuck on/between the surrounding rim of the lens release button. Apparently there are two types of lens red dots, this and smaller one. Changing of the red dot costs around $30...

Do you need the red dot? Prise it out and put it away for safe keeping.

Who stole my light?
Ship it to me, I'll remove the red dot and replace it with a smaller one for 29 bucks!
That's a pretty ridiculous problem... is the red dot really preventing you from mounting the lens, or is it just stiff?

Leica gives away red dots for replacement on lenses.
Well, this was at the Leica store and service center and thy didn't "give it away". If it would have been under warranty they would have.
The dot meets the open part of the rim of the release button and thus the lens cannot be turned into place. The button rim on this M6 seems particularly high.

A rather inelegant, yet effective solution would be to remove the red dot and use a small amount of red nail polish or modeling paint to paint a dot in the indentation.

Just yank it off. It is only there to help orient the lens for mounting, it can be done without. I've had several lenses without their dots.

Leica USA has when I've requested them.
I suppose the charge they quoted me is for the work and the dot.

File it down. Gently....

Medium Format Baby!!
That's a large dot! Looks like a ripe pimple, maybe if you squeeze it it might burst.

Bite it off. A little known fact - They're cherry flavored! Yummy.
Same problem [same lens] on my double-stroke M3. I removed the ring surrounding the lens release button. I wrote to Leica about this, never received a reply.
I remember a few occasions where the lens came loose on my Hexar, due to lack of the release rim after me gripping it to get it out of a bag or similar. Scary stuff. This one is more of a design flaw that should be fixed by Leica for free. Can't use your $2000 lens on one of our camera bodies, you pay to fix it yourself. Has nothing to do with warranty, in my view. I probably should have made a fuss about it. Nonetheless I will probably have it done, instead of any filing or other DIY.
Maybe that is a Leica R dot that was put on an M lens? Assuming the former are larger..
The dot is the same as on the 35 ASPH, it is just that the barrel is so slim that you cannot put it further away from the flange. Anyway, I managed to force it and the lens is on now
