Red line on DOF scale

On each of my ZM lenses there is a red line on the DOF scale -- e.g. for the 50mm Planar, the line is at F/8. Any idea what this indicates?

Could this be the infra-red focus indication mark? Infra-red needs to be focussed different from ordinary light.

IR. It's mentioned in the instructions that come with the lenses. To use it, focus normally and move the set distance from the main index to the red line.

If you read the manual while on the crapper, you'll never miss a thing. Of course you might be in the toilet for awhile depending on your reading speed.
