I have an autisic glitch , like a scared kid surrounded by grown ups , so i am ever agonising about ''why '' I do stuff , is it from the'' ASdee '' , or just OK

i seem to like to gather lots of different pretend ''Leicas '' - Fed / Zorki 1 , and Zorki S in '' re-invented '' styles . Though i am all too aware that this is disrepectfull to the Russian history , I have a similar dee's-placement in a confusing world .
... but the '' standard '' cameras that I love to surround and ground me , that also seem ''right '' are the Fed 2 versions , which is great , 'cos they are cheap to buy .

i am awaiting a collection of Fed 1 / Zorki 1 / Zorki S , zorki 2 S / FEd 2 b from one seller in near mint , restored ? , condition , simply 'cos they all have the same recovering , so are like '' a set '' , and that's OK !

I have ''dee-ficulty with Cyrillic script , so the Leica engraved cameras are less '' dee-sturbing , '' but I also love all the diferent finishes .

Oddly , I will choose a Zorki or Fed [ or two / three ] rather than a serviced , therefore trustwothy , Leica IIIc to keep with me - more as a comfort / familiarity thing than for taking pictures .

I have to deliberately focus upon going out to look for things to capture - usually bits of buildings , it takes some effort to focus through the chaos , and the ritual of these '' sqinty '' little cameras seems to calm me somehow .

it's unlikely that I will ever reach the ability that you enjoy in this forum , which means that I am wondering if I should be hanging around here .

In 6 months , from the first bemused intoduction to a Zorki 1 and Leica IIIc ,+and that amazing sense of familiarity / connectoin whch has never , ever , happened before , I have will have gathered in 25 little gems , some of which will be actually used to create '' magic slide shows '' , others will simply create a little haven of the familiar / safe in constant chaos .

It's all been a dreamstate interlude , prompted by an inheritance and 60s toys sold on e-bay .... whilst computers are forcing out the visuals that I do by hand ... and the future looks shaky ...

Yet ... these diminutive delights have somehow kept the chaos at bay ...

Is it really wierd to ''need '' several '' same '' cameras , or '' nearly same '' , rather than collecting all the various models / variants ?

And the '' Leicas '' , which experience stiil tells me are of variable quality and far too expensive ... yet , like my ZS avatar [ still awaited return following fixing under warranty !!! ] , I seem fixated upon ....

I guess it's crazy asking your opinion , but I have been locked away being '' stupid '' and worse for decades , and it's a problem making sense of real people and what's , well , I guess '' normal ''

Stop wondering. You belong here just like the rest of us. For whatever reason, (and there are many different ones) you enjoy RF photographic instruments and gear. That's reason enough to hang around here, since, in that vein, we're the same. As far as abilities, dee, it's only important that YOU enjoy your unique abilities. Any picture you take, dee, of the thousands of RFF members, you're the only one there at that moment, the only one taking that shot. Enjoy the moment, enjoy the shot, enjoy your ability.

"Weird? Uhhh... of course it is," he says, as he fondles his THREE Zorki.1s and TWO Leica.IIIs. You know what dee? I buy what I like so I'll sort of repeat myself... IMHO, "...it's only important that YOU enjoy your unique tastes in cameras." If you're buying one to please me, call me and I'll tell you which one to get. If you're buying it to please you, Get.Whatcha.Want.

"I have an autistic glitch..."
Well, as you can see, I have vocabular diaharrea........ so I'll shut up now. 😎 Hang on, ol bud. Glitches come and go, but GAS lasts forever! 😉

dee,
I can only agree with Reagan and add a little of my own to this:
Unless hanging out here at RFF is causing you problems in your life, I can't see any reason why you shouldn't be here.
I've found your threads/posts to be interesting and civil. And fun.
And that you like a somewhat different "species" of FED/Zorki than I do matters in only one way that I can think of: we won't likely ever be competing to get the same cameras. That can't be bad.
Do this(buying cameras/taking photos/hanging out here) for yourself and be welcome.

one of the beauties of having a hobby, especially a solitary one, is that we can do as we please with most of it.
if you like different cameras or the same camera, who cares?
i like to have at least 2 of the same camera and that is an old habit of mine, well established long before the internet and this forum.
i like several of the same camera bag also.
i harm no one with this habit and it makes me happy.
and if there is one thing that i have discovered/learned, it is that i deserve to be happy.
i'm thinking you do too.

i think it's perfectly normal around these parts 😛

i've gone from Fixed Lens RFs to FSUs to modern Bessas to FSUs to 60s RFs to Leicas to Bessas ....

frankly, i think i want them all!!!

i think its totaly normal if it makes you feel good. i am always happy when i find some cheap working or half working camera on flea market. sometimes i use it for shooting and sometimes i try to repair it but anyway i have a good time with them.
enjoy and dont worry...

If you dev your own wear rubber kitchen gloves, the benzine near analogues are not nice.
Your debit or credit card may be damaged.
And if you come out on RFforum outings you may drink too much or eat too hot food. Ash decided to get me crushed - like in the HCB China food queue picture and then forgot to take my picture...

Luckily i don't have credit cards or any means of buying other than stuff sold on e-bay , even then there is a concession from my long suffering wife [ and carer ] that '' the bank '' will pay for the postage for e-bay sales - as that amounts to £90 , it means another camera or two [ i can' t get my head around much everyday stuff , but loading a Zorki is easy ! ]
Thanks for your support all of you - I am ever aware of how awesome your abilities are ... and my simple slide shows [ recently re-dee's covered ! ] pale in comparison [ 'specially when over exposed !!! }
Most of all , though I might not take many pictures ... having left behind the worrying complexity of lightweight , plastic all singing , all dancing modern cameras ... the Zorkis have somehow helped me to '' see '' pictures all around me - which I could do decades ago , but lost along the way .
Zoom lenses are a problem for me , I actually prefer lots of 50 mm 's to play around with - maybe the odd 35mm , but I have yet to indulge in a leica srew fit one ...
I guess it's just OK to go with what '' chases away the dee's-ruption ''
[ Provided i can coax a few mor pennies out of my abandoned toys ! ]

Hello Dee - like most other people on here I have several crates full of cameras that are all very similar and do the same thing, most of them of Soviet manufacture. It gives me hours of harmless fun. The nice thing about RFF is that everyone here is the same in that respect and understands what you described perfectly.

There is a view that the rest of the world is out of step with us...
