I've run into a glitch or setting issue in posts. When attempting to post a URL for a reddit thread, the forum software automatically displays it as Media. This means that the link is not clickable, and only displays the graphic for Reddit.

Example:

https://www. reddit. com/r/M43/comments/1bba8hx/was_surprised_to_find_that_panasonic_is_still/

renders as

If you click the post title in the graphic it takes you to you to the url.

I must be missing something, because the reddit graphic does not have a clickable link. Maybe because I'm using DarkReader extension?

Edited to add: nope, turning off DarkReader doesn't help. This is very odd. How does it appear on your screen? All I see is a long dark rectangle with the word 'reddit' in the top right hand corner. No link, no post title, nothing else.

Edited to add again: are you reading this on mobile? Maybe that's the reason why you can see it and I can't, as I'm on desktop.

Edited to add yet again: nope, it doesn't appear for me on mobile, either.

Okay, I get it now. I'm using Firefox, and it appears with a post title and clickable link in Google Chrome. So there's some kind of incompatibility between the forum software and Firefox.

Further investigations reveal that the problem lies in Firefox privacy and security settings. The reddit link appears when Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection is set to Strict. When set to Normal, you see this:

this is due to software the forum uses so, for example, links to youtube aren't just urls, but provide an embedded video player right in the post. the software does this automatically for dozens of sites, like Google Sheets and Docs, Vimeo, Apple Podcasts, etc.

if you want a link to appear, and not an embed, use the link option which appears above the text entry window:

paste the url in the upper box

type whatever text in lower box, like "reddit"

and you'll get this:
