Reducing contrast of oly RC

I would like to reduce the contrast a bit. If I am using kodak gold 100 for example can I rate the asa at 80 or 50 will this reduce the contrast? Also, should I tell the lab to pull the film as well or should I just develop it at normal times? thanks.
