Reflex on Kickstarter

i'm going to order a bulk reel of maco ts eagle aqs and stop griping about how overpriced streetpan is. get on the maco bandwagon!

I've noticed that on a lot of forums. Everyone seems to want to support film until someone comes out with a new film or camera. Then the fangs come out.

The same people complaining about it, wishing it was something else, also wouldn't buy that something else if it was offered new.
They would just say why bother, I can get it used and cheap..

Let's be honest. The gripers are not the target audience. They no longer are relevant as customers for gear. The next generation of film shooters are.

Aaaand... new shooters do not hang out on forums like this. They are on flickr groups or facebook groups.

Yep. Silbera is another good example. And JCH Pan.
If Hunt didn't bag Fujifilm I might cut him some slack, but he shouldn't dish it out if he can't take it. It's unseemly for someone in the business of selling film to blatantly cast aspersions on a competitor, the phrase "vested interest" comes to mind. As far as I am concerned, the fewer people who buy JCH Pan the better.

He was pissed off a Fuji well before he started producing film - what it is about his opinions about them that bothers you? They are ceasing production of film, is that not something to be frustrated about?

I must have missed their announcement Hamish. Perhaps you'd be kind enough to pass on a link to it please?

here's the announcement from fujifilm, and bellamy discusses it on his blog.

personally, i don't think it's a bad sign. they're adjusting to the new market to ensure profitability. everyone is going to have grievances about products coming and going from the market.

Oh I have seen that one, thanks, but I was referring to the one Hamish mentioned—you know—the one in which Fuji have stated that they’re “ceasing production of film”. You know, the one that’s a figment of Hunt’s imagination.
Cheers
Brett

It's a weird time in film... where the usual names kill off products, but new players are trying to enter the fold. I would think any new product that keeps film alive is a good thing.

I'm not real certain how Bellamy popped up in this discussion. Seems as if some people just cannot let a good grudge go to waste.

When they dropped Neopan 400 I was a little upset myself, not too mention Provia 400X. At least Bellamy put his money where his mouth was and tried to come up with a replacement.

EDIT - Really good film btw. I use a lot of it.

I wish them well but I believe there are plenty of higher end Japanese film cameras available used for not much.

But none of those are:

1/ New
2/ Able to adapt to any lens mount with a simple switch of a mount plate
3/ Have detachable film backs with dark slides.
4/ Have a built in flash and LED light.

Perhaps I missed it, but have you ponied up to buy one of these cameras on Kickstarter?

Yep, I pledged.

I have other film cameras, but there is so much I admire about this. In this age of hand wringing and lamenting the death of film cameras, someone is actually bringing out an all new design. And it is nothing like what I have, or what is available.

The last 'new' film camera to be released was the Leica M-A, which is just an MP with the battery removed. Not exactly bringing anything new to the table there. Oh, and it is $4000.

I also am excited about being able to use my Minolta 58 1.2 on a new body.

If the early voting is any indication, the interchangeable back is not a big selling point. Only two backers have signed up for an extra one.

Akshully that is not the case. I have ordered one to go with the camera but it does not show as the kickstarter process only lets you make one selection for your pledge. So if you want to order anything else, you need to just increase your pledge amount for that one selection commensurate with the cost of the additional item. And then send Reflex an email saying what else you are paying for.
I know of many that have done that.
Reflex even details it in their FAQ. It is unfortunate that this is the only way to do it.
