They must have gotten Didier's camera in from Europe ;)

Gawd, I hope I don't get that one!

Well, I just heard from Epson that mine shipped. Must have been one of the last of the batch of current refurbs. Keeping my fingers crossed.

How I hate you all for making me do this. :bang:

Yes! Take care of #2434!!!
Didier

Got mine today, serial is 46xx.
Would have taken good care of Didier's though :D.

Looks totally new, not a sign of use. Battery is new, charger, camera, manual.
Charging battery now. Played with a couple of lenses, viewfinder is so far ok from what I can see.

Is there an easy, quick test for viewfinder malalignement?

I am actually positively surprised by the build quality, certainly feels solid.

Good Luck to everybody who got in on this batch,
Andreas

A simple but apparently effective test is to focus on a star. You will see right away if vertical or horizontal alignment are off as well as whether you are at infinity.

My test is to focus on a distant light at night. It helps that my office over looks the lower Hudson river so I can focus on the Manhattan skyline. Much brighter than a star.

If you do mean Viewfinder rather than Rangefinder (some R-D1's have had misalinged framelines) then make sure you are square on to a window or level picture frame, alignline the camera framelines to the window or picture and check the resulting picture. The viewfinder safety margin will show a little space all round, but the subject should be square not tilted.
