I've had an ad up that seeks the owner of the CCD MM who would like to trade it for a near mint M9-P.

I am surprised that I didn't get a single nibble. Is that because MM owners covet their cameras and wouldn't trade it for a (gasp!) color version of the otherwise same camera?

Or is it because the typical MM owner already has one of the digital Ms?

Hi Harry

The MM is a camera choice that takes quite a bit of dilberation to make.
I think most owners that have made the choice to buy one, are quite ready to stay with it.
You see very few for sale. That should be telling enough.
Maybe you could try Leica Store Miami or another dealer for a trade. You may have better luck.

Out of curiosity, I just looked at recent sold listings on Ebay. The prices for MM and M9-P are about the same: $3.5 to $4K USD.

I think it's more likely that MM users are keen on BW, this is their only option, and the results are better than converted color. Basically, they're committed.

Its also likely that some of people selling the MM or doing so because they're interesting in getting or have a M246 so a trade for a M9 would be of little interest to them.

John,

I think you have the correct insight. Pretty much for a B&W only shooter it is the best digital camera except for some the M-246.

Think of it this way.

It would not be easy to trade some color film for B+W Film to photographer who shoots only in B+W.

Yeah, I think the MM is generally more valuable. You might have to sell your P and buy one with the dough. Also, trading is awkward...most people will do it only in person, if at all, and that's rather limiting. I would never ship something in trade...

Thank you all for those responses; they appear to cover just about all possibilities. I'll have to come up with Plan B.
