Releasing the shutter

There was some talk about how the act of taking a photo is similar to shooting a firearm. I tend to agree and was wondering if anyone gave concious thought to what they do at the moment of release. I try to stop all movement for a brief period of time and do not immediately remove the camera from my eye or wind on or anything else. A habit that I picked up shooting and always thought of as " follow through " for lack of a better word. This pause seems to really help at slow speeds.

and just before expert sharpshooters release the trigger, their brain waves slow down. novices think too much so they stay the same. don't you love the discovery channel?

Wait at the point of highest tension.

Do not think that what you do not do will not happen.

And don't fake it or the master will grab your camera and break it in two!

A millipede was once asked how it could coordinate all of its legs and walk. The millipede stopped to think about it, and never walked again.

I always try to push the shutter button/trigger 'into' the camera/firearm rather than push down on it so that the camera/piece moves .

Research with the UK olympic smallbore team discovered that the top performers always released their triggers at exactly the same point in their heart cycle!!...although they were unaware of doing so.

When I learned to shoot, I was taught how to wrap the sling around my fore-arm to steady the rifle. I use a similar approach these days with camera straps. Since I carry my camera on my shoulder, I adjust the strap so it will be quite tight when the camera's at my eye. It really steadies the camera a lot.

When my hubby taught me to shoot, I started getting less blurry photos.

The technique I learned on rifle team in college has definitely helped with my photography. I always had blurry photos before.
