Remembering my Dad

My first fathers day without my dad. he passes away on my birthday in december. I was going through some of his old photo gear today and found a bunch of Kodachrome slides. I think I will spend tomorrow scanning some and looking at them. From what i've looked at already, I see where I got my photographers eye from. Amazing how much his stuff and mine are similar. He was a pentax spotmatic man...would live and die pentax. perhaps because he worked for honeywell back then? But he bought me a leica. Thanks dad! :)

What a great way to remember your dad. Looking at some of his old memories.
K25 and 64 looks great even decades after it was shot. I hope you post a couple of shots to share.
 
Yeah, i plan to share some. He shot the Vinoy hotel in St Pete, Florida before they restored it. He was the only one on the grounds at the time and it's amazing to see what the grand ballroom used to look like, compared to it now. K64 transparencies.
 
Condolences.

My paternal grandfather was a keen amateur photographer. He was killed on HMS Gloucester off Crete during WW2. I wish I had some of his pictures.

Fortunately my father is still alive. I saw him last week. But he won't last forever, and he lives a thousand miles away. I wish I had more pictures of him.

thank you so much Roger. I wish I had more pictures of my dad too. He just hated to get a photo taken. sadly the only ones i have were near the end, where he didn't look like the guy i grew up with. diabetes took its toll on him. we became the best of friends though in the last 2 years or so. i took him out of hospice and had him live with me. he always enjoyed riding in the car looking around for new places to eat that were wheel chair accessible. it didn't take much to make him happy :D

Sorry, about your Dad. My father has been gone for decades and I still miss him. He wasn't much of a photographer, but he took lots of photos. I did what you will be doing. And it was very enjoyable. I have a real nice set from the late thirties, here is one:

Here is a picture of my father that I took with the first roll of film on my first 35 mm camera, an Aires, which my father gave to me when I was 15. My father passed away 14 years ago. I found the negatives and prints from that roll eight years ago when I was helping my mother move out of the house. It was a very emotional moment.

Do you still have the camera? I can imagine all the emotions when you were looking at them. I feel it today with my dads slides. I love that picture of him. its wonderful.
 
I just used the v500 for my first slide scan ever. I thought one of my dad's images would kick it off right. He shot this at the Vinoy Hotel in florida, during the restoration project. This is their grand ball room before it got spruced up. I think I share his eye for shooting stuff like this. We seem to compose the same way lol.

Kodachrome 64 shot with his Pentax Spotmatic I believe. I know it was a Pentax though.

It's good to remember our Dads, mine wasn't around much when I was younger, my parents divorced when I was two. But we got together a good bit later on, he was retired Army, I was in the Marines so we talked shop a lot. He was a CW04 Cobra Helicopter pilot in Viet Nam, 3 tours then he taught pilots in flight school later, proud of him.

Don't have many pics of him, wasn't into photography back then, so here's to our Dads...

My Dad passed away three years ago, at age 90. I have a copy of a LF print he had made in WWII, of him and his best friend, in uniform, sitting on camels in front of the Sphinx and the Giza pyramids, taken during the North African campaign. It's funny, looking at that picture, he sure looks a lot like me! These kinds of photos are priceless; congratulations on finding those slides.

Here's to Dads!

My Dad wasn't ever much of a photo taker. I think I got my photo-gene from my maternal grandfather. He was a hobbyist and I still have his Leica screw lenses from the 1950s. I've been scanning some negatives I found of his, many haven't been seen by the family so it's like unearthing history.

Look forward to seeing some photos. I love how old photos bring out how life was back in the day. Sometimes it's the little detail - i'm amazed how everyone wore suits everywhere - even on vacation.
 
My dad is one of the hardest working people I know. At 73, he keeps a full time job and still finds time to work on cars, work in the garden and fuss over the rest of the family.

He used to shoot an Olympus 35 RC (iirc) and a Canon AE-1. Can't find either of the cameras now, but he's a pretty awesome dude. He also dislikes candid photographs, so I try and shoot as many as I can.

Same here. Nowadays, I tried to bug him as much as I can tinkering with my old cameras. He's very handy with his hands; so far he has: 1) re-stitched a leather TLR case, 2) helped with my Polaroid 110 project, 3) fashioned a custom replacement for a missing red-window slider on a Graflex 22...

Yep, here's to our dads!!
 
I lost my Dad 3 years ago and still miss him. He was an artist who used the camera along with his brushes and pencils.

Since I am 4 hours away my sister placed flowers on his grave this morning for me..

It is a shame that we all don't appreciate our parents more and spend more time with them while they are still with us...
