Damaso... nice work as always! You were a brave young guy heading into that environment given the general public perception of the country and relative safety.
Like most 20 year olds I was more interested in new adventures than my own safety. Of course at five years after the fact Rwanda was a pretty safe place to visit.
And the trip changed my life and the way I shoot. It was amazing to have a chance to live my dream as a young adult. That experience gave me the confidence to buy a one way ticket to Indonesia two years later...

Women were among the most impacted as a group by the genocide. Rape and sexual assault, not just murder, was used as a tactic during those one hundred days. Photographing the brave survivors of those attacks was a challenge for a young man from another country.
