remind me why...

We're all out of shape couch potatoes who can't lift lenses that weigh more than a few ounces. Sigh....

Hey!! I have an excuse...bad hand................ so that leaves me with one good hand :(

Speak for yourself. I like a BIG lens on my RF. Makes me feel like a manly man.

When I am traveling or shooting, my M4-P comes in and out of its padded compartment in my Domke (F2). I don't really need anything much smaller than the Ultron I use now, but I still want that pre-ASPH 35mm Summilux (I gasped when I saw how compact and cool it looks on the M4-P).

Roland, is the Nokton 35/1.4 about the same size as the Summilux?

It actually depends.

When I want to be having the Barnack experience, I want a super small lens, with auxiliary viewfinder.

But other times, I'm okay with a humongous honker of glass, ala Noctilux or similar.

Oh, some day, I'll hang a 21/1.4 Summilux off the M5.........

But other days, 5cm f3.5 LTM on an M8 is just nice. Or IIIf, when I get around to that CLA....

Smaller setup won't intimidate the subjects.

You can carry smaller setup everyday even without a camera bag. No camera, no photo.

Well, probably many people are totally fine with carrying big rig everyday, and they have no problem dealing with subjects with it. I'm not one of them. I ended up keeping some of the smallest RF lenses after trying fast big ones, and I'm fairly certain that I could take some of my favorite photos because I had smaller lenses.

smaller = more portability, as mentioned.....
But also, I love them b/c they have great IQ AND they are small. I mean, most manufacturers can make BIG lenses have produce great IQ, but much fewer manufacturers can do so with smaller lenses ......... AND they are well=built, and Beautiful!
I guess I think of these smaller lenses as more of a clever integration of Art and Science.

A photographer in this post sums it up for me:

"i have for a long time preferred the smaller, slower lenses for their fit and feel in my hand...and also for the lack of notice they facilitate when i am out and about. i swear folks are staring at the 1.1..."
