Taken at the vet while waiting for my 12-yr old dog to pull through his surgery. It was only a lumbar hernia operation, but he lost a lot of blood. Fortunately, God saw fit to let him stay with us a while longer.

Hope your dog recovers soon. It's been sick dog week at RFF. Spot the Dog went to the Animal Hospital of New York to have his tooth extracted. (He broke it eating something.) This facility has one of only 90 canine dentists in the US. While we were there, they had a fire drill. All of the people and animals ran out onto the street, including this Rotweiler who was wheeled in on a gurney and wheeled out for the fire drill on the same gurney. Then wheeld back in after it was all over. Quite the sight!

Scared me too, a few too many empty collar experiences. Very glad you companion recovered.

We just tucked the poor little guy onto his pillow in our bedroom so the cats won't lick his sutures at night. The cats are scared to death of the Elizabeth Collar he has to wear (I think they are having flashbacks), but I wouldn't put it past my felines to come and administer their own form of first aid in the darkness. He's still in pain from the surgery, but is drinking water. The vet said he may not want to eat today. I gave him his meds and he put up his usual struggle swallowing pills which is a good sign.
 
Even after a year, that photo brings back the day we had to make the toughest decision concerning one of our dogs...sorry, can't type through the tears...and really don't want another look at the picture...

Great news. Who did the surgery? Was it Jonathan Dee in Hollywood? He's one of the top veterinary orthopedic surgeons, though there are several others in the area with great reputations as well.

IIRC Dan Carmichael is head of dentistry there, has an outstanding reputation. I'm a member of AVDS and know or know of most of the board-certified vet dentists. There are components worldwide, they just had a meeting in the Netherlands this month and the USA meeting is next month. Not all the work is small-animal...I attended a lecture by the chief of dental surgery at Angell in Boston, he showed slides of a root-canal on a hippo...the endo file was adapted from a 1" auger bit!
 
Sure glad you friend is back home and recuperating. I was also afraid you were going to report something different when I saw the photo.

My dentist (people) in California had a photo in his office of him working on the giant canine tooth of an anesthetized tiger. That was quite the sight!

Glad all is well. My black lab, Guinness, recently had a couple bad teeth removed. Still waiting for the stiches to dissolve.
 
Good news regarding your pup. I don't think anyone truly can understand the bond that we share with our four-legged friends unless you have been an owner yourself. They are truly members of the family that provide us unselfish love and support!!
 
Einstein (my dog) is doing well. Took him to the vet today for a follow up and all is going smoothly. The vet is Country Walk Veterinary Center which is run by a husband/wife team of DVM's. Dr. (Mrs.) Alvarez did the surgery. Top notch place. Recommended to me by a dog breeder.

Now it is time to give him is antibiotics.
