Sorry to bother you folks with this basic question, but I dont want to do anything wrong with my newly acquired fed 2 (
) It currently has a collapsible lens on it, and I wanted to try it with a J-8 as well, but I dont know how to properly remove the lens.
should it be set to 1m or infinity? Should it be pulled out or collapsed?
WHERE do I grab it, to screw it out? The little "screw" sticking out which one could hold doesnt seem strong enough to withhold the pressure, or is it.
thanks.

Hello Lubitel,
You should notice a little knob on the right side of the lens when the camera's in front of you (1m lock). Simply grab the camera on the focus knob and this lock knob, and turn it
leave the lens inside or collapsed, as you wish. As far as I know, that's how I proceed on my Zorki-S

So it should be focused on 1m?

ack i don't have my zorki-S here... anyway, move the focusing know towards the place where this little knob is located, and then move it a bit stronger, in a counter-clockwise movement
It is "probably best" to extend the lens and set the lens to infinity, using the infinity lock, then unscrew the lens. The lock "should" hold the lens in place while unscrewing. Extending the lens minimizes chances of banging the RF cam or anything else, like a light baffle, while removing the lens form the body.
anyway, that is how I remove my collapsible lenses.

Hmm, I tried it, and when I do that the little knob gets a little bent, I am afraid I'll break it off. The lens seems to be screwed in tightly.
Sometimes dirt and grime gets into the threads and makes it tough to unscrew the lens. Some force will be required. You might want to clean the threads of the camera and lens after getting it off.

brian, the lock doesnt hold it in my case, it slips. I guess I should probably get some tools and try to carefully screw it off.

maybe it's been sticking in too long...

The helical should be heavy enough not to have a problem if you set the lens to 1M and unscrew it. If you feel metal giving, back off.

It wouldnt hurt to take an old tooth brush and a drop of lighter fluid and clean the threads of the mounting flange on the camera. A drop of oil will make life easier also........

There actually isn't any lock on a FED 2. Just extend the lens to get a better grip and unscrew it. Which knob are you talking about? The knob that you can use to focus the lens or the pin that sticks out? They both are solid on the lens that I have and I can't see how either could bend.
The biggest problem I have with changing lens is getting the lens lined up properly so I can screw it on. If you get the lens off, watch the position of some mark on the lens when it comes free so you can put the lens in the same position to screw it back on.

I was talking about the pin that sticks out. Its not quite solid in there, the thread of it is somewhat worn. And it almost poped out when I tried to unscrew the lens yesterday. I took a pen and with a blunt end of it put it against the base of this pin, and pushed it till it unscrewed. cleaned the thread a little bit, and now it works better.
Now I gotta figure out how to adjust the RF, it seems to work at distances till 4 m, after that its all screwed up.

Is it a FED lens or Industar-22 ?
