Removing front chrome cover on Kiev 4?

The Kiev survival site makes it sound like its easy by not giving any description, but how the heck does somone take off the front chrome cover to get to the rangefinder compensating screws? I've got all the screws out, but the fine focus adjuster prevents me from taking the cover off.
Any help?
Thanks,
Richard

It tilts up and off, be brave. Remember to remove the screw under the covering near the rangefinder and take care not to lose the small glass rangefinder and viewfinder window covers that sometimes choose this point to fall out.

Nevermind, I found the 7th screw, but it's all moot now. I moved over the compensator, went out to test it, and now something has broken that makes the focusing become very tight after 6 meters and adjusting the focus has no effect on the rangefinder any more....just greeeaaaat. I can rebuild a fuel distributor, but move these two frigging screws and the piece of junk breaks on me.

Bugger. The old Lomo trick of rolling it down a flight of carpeted stairs doesn't work with the Kiev either. :(

A Lomo LC-A is a strange pocket soviet 35mm camera with an unusual lens that produces pictures of, er, 'character'. Great fun to use but a cult following means they change hands for greatly exaggerated prices.

Bit like a Leica really.... :D

Ok, well I figured it out. The little arm on the compensator had become stuck because a piece of junk fell into the track on the other piece of the compensator) causing it to jump the track. Now...to get this back together...uh....what screw goes where now? Well, here goes nothing, I guess I'll find out if I have any light leaks one the next roll (I'm not liking this piece of string seal at th top there). This thing is so built with that great USSR quality (all sorts of paper and fabric and foam in there to take care of their large tolerances.

Well...uh...anybody want a parts Kiev? The rangefinder compensator is seized up, even when I take it out of the camera it keeps seizing up...and now I bent the shutter curtain...It's a really good parts camera though (good chrome, pretty good leather, working light meter, the 10 second delay shutter thing was working until I took the camera apart.

HELLO,
Heres your problem, when you put the front cover back on, the two smallest screws go on the left side, facing the front of the camera. if you put the longer screws there, it will bind up just like you described.

No, that's not it. The compensator even binds up when it's not in the camera. I can't see what's wrong with it, but if I had to guess, whatever is wrong with it was probably caused by that plastic breaking sound I heard.
Richard

I believe that you worked too hard on kiev. There's a screw for adjustment to remove binding at infinity once you take off shutter and beam splitter . Did I warn you that you should not do any adjustment when the focusing is at infinity?
