Removing "M9" Paint

Has anyone tried or been able to remove the paint on the "M9" of a steel grey M9? I would like the front of mine to be as plain as possible (I just ordered a black dot from DAG).😀

I've read it doesn't come off as easily as the white paint on the black M9 using the "toothpick technique".😛

Save your money and forget about the black dot from DAG ..
Just upgrade to the M9 P top and bottom plate ...

You can gently remove the paint from the red dot and have yourself a brushed steel dot. I did that to my black M9 and it looks great.
Now that my M8 is gone, I'm going to put my Yashica GTN "atom" logo in place of the Leica dot on the M9.

honestly i think the black lettering looks pretty good with the black dot.

I imagine once you got it started it would chip out OK with a sharp toothpick so what I would try is Gaffa tape over the logo (working it into the engraving)and rip it off and see if that pulls some paint out. Its a one way trip though if you only get a bit out and the tootpick doesn't work.

I removed the white "LEICA M6" logo on my M6 with a fine-tipped cotton swab and nail polish remover.

I thought about that, but wasn't sure if it would come out the same color as the steel grey. Is it? Can you send a photo, if it's not too much trouble? Thanks!

I (inadvertently) removed most of the white paint logos from my black M9 using gaffer tape.... (well, I guess it is cheaper than upgrading it to an M9P...)

Was about to suggest gaffer tape for masking, but using it for ripping the paint off apparently also is an option.

It seems a new profession is appearing: leica beauty cosmeticians: black dot laque and wax logo removal.

seriously though: I have repainted my M6 dot in black, and don't really bother to have the Leica script silver.
For the inscriptions on the camera, I used a black paint stick from Micro-tools

How about using one of those wood stick that women use to do something or other to their fingernails? They have a point on them that might be the right size. Or else shape a wood popsicle stick to a rounded or chisel point? The soft wood won't damage the metal.

Reminds me of the guy who took the hood ornament off his Benz because he didn't want to appear ostentatious. The ultimate in snobbery. But hey whatever floats your boat.

I removed the white paint on my M9 as well. It wasn't to make it discrete so I won't get robbed, it was just because I wanted my whole camera to be as black as possible... why? I don't know, just because.

I've done the best I can, taking out the M9 paint with toothpicks & exchanging a black Leica dot for the red one. But IMO there's a real business opportunity for someone to make little steel-colored & black PLAIN dots, so that we can all have instant M9-Ps.

I just prefer the look of an all-black camera. I find the red dot a bit tacky. It's nothing to do with theft prevention.
