I have an M9 and carrying it around Europe last year in a backpack caused the protective glass (aftermarket) /screen protector on the LCD to crack in a couple places. It makes the camera look awful so I would like to remove it and replace it so the question is how.
I am pretty sure it is just the screen protector as the camera was at Leica, NJ, last year for a CLA and they did not say anything about the LCD. And does anyone know a source for a new LCD protector?

Absolutely I know a source for a new LCD protector. After my screen protector cracked, as yours has done, I purchased a new one from B&H. In fact, I must give credit to one of our members, Calzone, as he not only told me where to buy a new one, but also kindly replaced the broken one with the new one for me.
It will make your camera look as good as new.

Warm it slightly - not too much, you do not want to pull the LCD cover glass off-, use a piece of dental floss to cut through the foam bonding strip and remove the rests with white spirit.
If it is an adhesive film, just warm it a bit (!) again and peel it off carefully, hoping for the best for the LCD coating.

Thanks
Thanks
Removed the screen protector from the M9 on Monday. The cracks were the screen protector and not the actual LED. Ordered a new one from B&H and put it on today.
Used the exact info from the replies to this thread so thanks again. RFF is a great resource.

I've had two of the Giottos glass protectors break on me, one actually drew blood when I picked up the camera. I use a brand called AMax or something close to that that I get on Ebay. They are plastic, fairly inexpensive and have yet to break. When they get too scratched, I just replace them. Use a thin knife or single edge razor blade and work the old one off. the adhesive is just around the edge.

Removing Rear LCD Protector from M9
My Giottos did brake on me too over a year ago and I just took it off today. I did warm it and then just used dental floss. Pretty easy. Now I'm looking for a new protection, not sure I want Giottos. Gotta think about it.
