any thoughts to reogranizing some sections of the forum or possibly combining them?

like 120RF and 120RF modern seem like they have similar posts
RF General Discussion seems to have General Discussion topics

the whole mirrorless section is now a bit of a mess, i'm not sure if the interchangeable distinction should be important anymore
the X100 forum, people post there and in the X forum
there is a growing following for sigma
the sony RX1 and RX100 discussions should be together imo
the ricoh gxr-m seems kind of dead that could be converted to a ricoh forum?
leica X posts could also be combined in one forum

if you're looking for volunteers...

There are a few more ... and the ones already here are getting louder! 😀

The Leica X1/X2 forum is already ONE forum. I lobbied for a year to get a bloody forum for the X1 (a very good camera which I own and use professionally), and then the X2 was added to the same forum. At the time, Fuji had all the attention with one forum and now there are many Fuji forums, not just one. What do you suggest to do with a completely singular forum for the Leica X1/X2? Combine it with what?

I vote no change there obviously.

i am suggesting to make a Leica X forum for the X1, X2 and X Vario
i find it silly to read posts about the same thing in two separate threads in two separate subforums

Under non-rangefinder what about
- keeping slr
- for p&s
-- split into film and digital, but digital would be less then 1 inch sensor
- a forum by major vendor (1 inch sensor and greater)
-- Nikon, Canon, Sony, Ricoh, Sigma, Fuji, etc.

Or just do a more minimal change
- rename rx100 to RX cameras
- rename Ricoh gxr to Ricoh cameras
- look at other cameras sections in both csc and adv fixed to c if there are cameras that deserve their own sub forum

In addition to my recommendations for combining
-120 RF and 120 RF Modern
-RF General Discussion and General Discussion

I agree with gary's suggestions on mirrorless digital
The SLR forum is a happy place and shouldn't be touched

-should create <1" point and shoot digital forum
-create a point and shoot film forum somewhere else
-remove the distinction between Fixed and Interchangeable Lens cameras
--then branded forums which would include
--combine the X, X100 and X-Pro1 forums together into Fuji
--rename the Leica X1/X2 forum to Leica
--add forum for 1 System and Coolpix A etc. as Nikon
--rename the Ricoh Leica M Mount to Ricoh
--add a Sigma forum
--combine the RX100 and Sony NEX forums together into Sony
--not sure if it's worth doing a Canon or Pentax or Samsung forum as they aren't as popular

the advantage of branded forums is that as new products come out, no reorganizations need to be made. for RFF users, this is probably going to be the most visited section going forwards so it would be great if it's reorganized a bit.

again would be happy to help move threads around if needed...

Just thought of a question

Just thought of a question

What about links in threads that point to other rff forum threads that happen to be a sub forum that is going to be re-organized? Will these still work.

An example is the thread in slr forum below. If u look into this thread item, u will c a pointer to a sigma foveon image thread that is part of the re-org.

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2170232&postcount=140

Are they protected by a symbolic link under the covers?

i'll probably get the **** kicked out of me here but..... all rangefinder threads should be above non rangefinder threads.

This is RFF after all.

smiley face

ps IMHO

Vote +1 on that!

No issues with combining the Ricoh GXR-M threads with the 'other' Ricoh threads, or maybe get ahead of the pack and combine them in a Pentax forum? 🙄

Agree with the "this is the rangefinder forum" statement.
I don't think the Nex and the RX100 are comparable cameras. IMHO the distiction shouldn"t be at 1" but at APS-C (maybe 4/3s).
Seperate film and digital P&S forums make sense. What about small sensor interchangeable systems like Pentax Q and Nikon 1? Maybe join them together in a seperate forum?

A large sensor fixed lens forum is logical imho, for cameras like the Nikon A, Ricoh GRD, Fuji X100, Sigma DP and Sony RX1.

Anyway, thanks to the head bartender for keeping this forum going and the other bartenders for keeping it civil!

Wait what?? You mean that all the threads on mirroless digital cams, film processing, technique etc would be lower to the threads about rangefinders?? Meaning they won't even appear on the homepage!! Are you talking about the tree architecture on the right side? or the way the posts are actually grouped? If this is about the way threads appear then thats ridiculous. All RFF will be about then will be Leica's and maybe the odd post on voigtlanders and old folders. Might as well rename RFF to LUG Version II

Good idea. MY take on it would be:
- coffee with mentors as one forum with subforums
- 35 film: one forum by brand
- bigger than 35mm: one for 120 and one for larger. But I'm not sure, there aren't that much larger than 120 rf's, are there?
- non rangefinders:
- don't see the point in lumping holga type camera's with polaroid and pinhole. think those last 2 may have something for themselves
- I might split slr into 35 and 120

I was going to write that I agreed on everything which was in the first post, then the thread grow and I got lost... For me any grouping of subforums is a plus, not making a single soup of course, some division is useful, but as it is now I never know which is the right place to post and I read most of the forums anyway.
