Leica LTM REPAINT A LEICA IIIc = CRAZEE ?

Leica M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
dee, you seem quite concerned about the cost of the procedure. luton does the work for a fixed cost, correct? if you can afford it, do it; otherwise if the cost is going to cause problems for you, don't do it. it is that simple.

all the other decisions like which buttons to have or not have painted are elementary once you have resolved yourself to do it.

Jeez, Kim- I've looked at your pictures of that painted M3 for a while, and every time, it pokes me in the ribs to paint one of mine. Funny, coincidence too- the candidate I am thinking of painting is a close cousin of yours- there are only 16 cameras between ours- mine is #1033644. I bought it on PN a while back, and it's worked hard for me. I sent it to Youxin Ye in January, and he CLA's it and recovered it (unasked!) for a very reasonable fee. So- should I do it myself, or send it somewhere?

I have messed around painting FSU cameras and have been painting nodel railway stock for 30 years. No way would I do a Leica. The quality of finish from CRR is a joy to behold. It is real craftsmanship.

Some of the pictures in the links Kim provided are enough to make anyone want a custom paint job! I can relate to that. I think a IIIc looks darn good in chrome, but then when I see a black one, I usually want one. So far the feeling has passed before any harm was done to my wallet.

So if you had the paint job done, would you baby it it a Luigi case, or take it out and use it and let it acquire a few honest knocks, or at least let it pick up some patina?
