Well, I just tried to contact Ricoh USA and discovered one now has to enter a credit card number to get a question answered when a product is out of warranty.
Can you recommend a repair source for a Ricoh GR1? We have one that no longer powers up. And yes, we tried a fresh battery.
TIA!/ScottGee1

Michael, thanks for the reply and info.
I'm guessing you called them since they don't include Ricoh film cams on their estimate list.
We just have to hope that the prices they charge for battery adapters don't predict what they charge for service!

So I just contacted C.R.I.S. for repair of my GR-1 that won't power up, and they said: "Unfortunately due to the age of this model the parts and service are no longer available and we can no longer service this model."
Today I am a sad RFF'er.

Don't know offhand if the GR1 is film or digital, but try Nippon Camera in NY. They repair lots of Japanese compact cameras. This source was given to me when I bought my (yet to be delivered) Contax T3. Good luck.

It's the original film version. I'll try Nippon Camera. Thanks for the suggestion.

I assume this is due to life cycle of the product and not related to the earthquake . . .So I just contacted C.R.I.S. for repair of my GR-1 that won't power up, and they said: "Unfortunately due to the age of this model the parts and service are no longer available and we can no longer service this model."

I wonder if later iterations of the GR1 can still be serviced?

Given that a year ago C.R.I.S. were already warning that parts were running low...

Ah, too bad. I know there used to a law that parts for products wold in the U.S. had to have parts available for at least seven (?) years and the GR1 is way beyond that. Hopefully, Nippon has a stash!

Interesting, I just had my GR1v repaired, but it was a different issue so maybe that was why.

Where was it repaired? My GR1v which was bought new by me and used very little has just developed a mostly blank top LCD. Everything works except I can't read the mode and the frame count.

My day is looking brighter: I just picked up a Leitz V35 enlarger with the 40/2.8 Focotar and the dichroic head for well under $300. That almost makes up for the GR-1.

There was an issue with the autofocus, they replaced the entire lens unit and some other things.Where was it repaired? My GR1v which was bought new by me and used very little has just developed a mostly blank top LCD. Everything works except I can't read the mode and the frame count.
I was getting the LCD problem, but it was only for like one roll of film and it's been okay, but I am sure it will come back. Not to mention I'm getting a weird thing with my film pre-wind, as I mentioned in another thread.. I love this camera but it's been pretty troublesome, might switch over to a klasse W if this keeps up...

Just developed an old roll from my beloved and broken GR-1. Thought I'd give this thread a bump and see if anyone has any new leads on GR-1 repair in the US.
