replacement CV lens cap (or wiping of the painted logo)

ok, this will sound stupid to some... but the painted on logo on my Color-Skopar 50/2.5 really bugs me. Anyone clean theirs off? I just want a plain metal lens cap, either clean off the one I have or buy one that will fit... any ideas?

Try Acetone ( nail polish remover ) if it is a silver one.

I buy generic chinese spring loaded lens caps for all of my CV lenses and keep the expensive ones at home. This doesn't work with the 15mm or others of that design obviously, but a 3 dollar 43mm cap lives on my Nokton and a 39mm lives on my Heliar.

That way the resale value isn't ruined some day if I want to sell the lenses and I've lost or damaged the original caps.

I was hoping someone had already done this 🙂

My fear is that after Acetone, paint stripper etc. the silver cap will not look right... so I would have just ruined an otherwise nice cap.

I'm putting this lens on a IIIc, and while I think the lens is pretty enough, the painted on letters look kind of tacky to me... CV should really have paid the extra 20 cents to either machine engraved or embossed the name on the front cap like classic Canon and Leica etc. lense caps...

I'm really thilled with the lens otherwise.

The writing has worn off my silver voigtlander lens cap. I'm looking at the cap now and the remaining bits of text scratch off with a fingernail or buff off on my jeans. I'd just rub the cap on your jeans (well probably not yours, but my own) for a while while watching tv or whatever.

No, just plain silver like the rest.

EDIT: trying again, using the jeans is pretty slow, I think a bit of scratching with a fingernail is the way to go, followed with some buffing on jeans. Hahaha. Mine looks normal afterwards.

i have tried this before on a phone...

take a sugar cube and wrap it in some clear plastic (saran wrap). use that to buff the paint off the silver.

What are lens caps for?
