So I just got a Leica M2 in the mail, turns out the rewind button was missing, I'm awaiting a response from the seller, and I expect everything should be handled, however, should the need arise for me to take care of this myself, does anyone have a resource for this specific part, and is it simple enough to install? It looks like it's just a threaded mount, I'm assuming one can just screw in a replacement?

The one I have had a tendency to come lose ... easy enough to screw back, in the end I cut a piece of rubber to stop it spinning while I tightened the screw enough to stop it coming loose again.
I probably have a clamp in the right size somewhere.
They can be replaced with a lever I understand so it shouldn't be too bad to fix.

I wouldn't mind converting it to a lever rewind, but I presume it'll have to be done by a proper serviceman.
I'll have to wait and see what the seller says.

So I got my camera back from Youxin today (after sending it to him to get the replacement parts and also perform a CLA as he determined it was necessary), everything seems nice and clean (to my knowledge) but I have a question regarding the button rewind itself. The collar surrounding the button is quite loose, if the camera is leaned forward it will actually slide away from the body about 1-2mm. I presume Leica wouldn't have allowed so much slack in a machined part, but I wonder if there is a way to tighten it so there is no play?

On my button M2 (not the one where you have to hold it in during rewind - this is S/N's #926000 to about #940 000) - the collar is loose (not as loose as yours) and as far as I know if you should accidentally depress the rewind button, pulling up on the collar will disengage the rewind function. Check if this works with yours

Mine falls in the early range of serials where you have to hold it down 931xxx serial.

... mine's the one you push, it clicks and stays in until you've rewound the film. It pops back out when you load the next film, or the next time you cock the shutter
Yours doesn't sound right to me, there shouldn't any play or gaps ... I'll take a look and see if I can take some photos it (I don't think it has a film in at the moment)

I'd be curious to see how far out yours slides out, because in use I don't think it will actually impact the functionality of the camera because everything is working as it should.

My M5s need red dots!
If I were you, I'd contact Youxin about it. He knows his stuff.

This is the normal position ... the outer ring is spring loaded against the body and if pressed the button clicks in and allows the film to be rewound

SNV33804 par Sparrow ... Stewart Mcbride, on ipernity
... it remains in this position until one has loaded the next film then pops out when one next moves the wind leaver

SNV33808 par Sparrow ... Stewart Mcbride, on ipernity
... at rest the outer ring can be lifted maybe a millimetre against the spring which normally keeps it against the body

SNV33809 par Sparrow ... Stewart Mcbride, on ipernity
To secure the screw on mine I put some rubber under the outer ring (where the paper clip is in the photo) to stop it spinning as I tightened the centre screw
I've intended sending that particular camera off to Malcolm ... its got those super smooth brass gears, I'd quite like to have it de-cluttered (preview, self-timer and lugs removed) a leaver rewind and new vulcanite fitted ... and painted.
PS its numbered 949452 btw if that has any bearing on anything
PPS sorry about the state of the camera; I've given it a bit of a clean and got rid of most of the dust and bits
